We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It was an inspiration that came to me while adding the finishing touches to my home. I love to have the essence of fresh flowers in my home, it brings a sense of serenity with the reminder of beauty in life. At that time I was working in my demanding career in dentistry. I had two toddlers, and a husband that worked 6 nights a week. It gets pretty hectic with a schedule like that. As long as I can remember, I’ve lived an organized life. Both of my parents are organized people so I learned it from their habits growing up. Living an organized life is being proactive in your life. I want to show others how to do the same and create those habits. You can live an organized life no matter what situations you are currently experiencing or pop up unexpectedly. It’s the small habits that help us be organized. I originally started my company to help mothers know that it can be done and while doing so they can live for themselves too, fulfilling their own desires and needs. Since I’m a natural organizer there isn’t a space or situation I’ll pass up. I’m very familiar with commercial spaces as I organized all the dental offices I ever worked. When I left dentistry I said I’d offer my services to dental offices, but I haven’t made my way there yet. My motto is “Creating a Calm Life in a Chaotic World”, and I’m loving what I have started.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Honeybee’s Organizing Solutions, LLC provides organizing for the mind, body, and soul. I help people live the life that they want by taking the tasks of organization off their hands. We provide commercial and residential services with the client’s design, function, and productivity in mind. I added handyman services during my first year of business and I absolutely love doing these customized projects. This year Honeybee’s finally taps into her commercial side by helping an AirBNB host manage her properties from start to finish. We’ve also partnered with ExxonMobil under their MyValet Services this 2023. Each year we grow into the vision I have for Honeybee’s and I couldn’t be more grateful to my clients for the opportunity to live out my passion of organization and order. We recently put up a billboard, thanks to OUTFRONT. That was a huge marketing strategy and let’s face it – a dream come true. Being a Houston native living off 45N most of my life, it was a surreal moment for me. I’ve passed Mattress Mack at Gallery Furniture many times. He’s just amazing and a true inspiration to Houston, especially Northside Houston. Since last fall our organizational team has grown from just me to a team of five. Honeybee’s Organizing Solutions, LLC has more to come and is working on a new summer project… We’ll be adding merchandise! Stay tuned because Honeybee’s Organizing Solutions, LLC isn’t going anywhere, and we’re ready to help you “create a calm life in a chaotic world.”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston is such a great city to live and visit. Depending on the season there is so much to do, explore and see. When we take friends to dinner we have to take them to our favorite spot Bluewater Seafood Champions for their best-in-town spicy crawfish. We’re never disappointed when we leave, I suggest you have the Captain’s Catch and top it off with their homemade banana pudding. The next morning we go eat the best tacos in town, I swear by it, at Spring Taco House on 1960 near Aldine Westfield. I warn you that the fresh corn tortillas are huge and delicious. We’d drive downtown, explore there and eat Frank’s pizza for lunch. I’ve been wanting to make out to Navigation Boulevard to have Oso Coffee Co. so we’d probably do that one day also. This summer my family and I have been blueberry picking and visiting the Airline Flea Market on the weekend, so add that to the list too. The bayou boat rides are amazing too. Last but not least, we’d cruise downtown to see the murals to take pictures.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I opened Honeybee’s Organizing Solutions,LLC, I was still in dentistry. If it wasn’t for my daughter starting pre-kindergarten, and me missing out on her first two weeks of school, I’d still be in dentistry. That was a push out of my twenty year career. I became PTO treasurer and very involved in her community, so that marketing H.B.O.S. was not a priority for me at that time. During that two-year transition I became a skincare consultant for Rodan and Fields. My friend’s daughter, Annie Ratner, approached me, asking if I’d like to make an extra income while aging backwards. Starting that journey of entrepreneurship with Annie through R+F has been tremendous for me and my companies. I gained knowledge on social media, networking, and the community I’m a part of is indispensable.
