We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robert, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m deeply inspired by the concept of creative freedom. The ability to explore, innovate and express oneself without constraints fuels my passion and drives my endeavors. It allows me to venture into uncharted territories and encourages experimentation through the pursuit of the most unique ideas, fostering a space where originality and individuality thrive. Moreover, creative freedom isn’t just about the final product but the process itself. It’s about the journey of discovery, the trial and error, and the joy found in creating something that’s truly one’s own. This process is invigorating and empowering, reminding me that the possibilities are limitless when imagination is given free rein. Deep down within all of us lies the potential to create, innovate and inspire others through our unique visions.
What should our readers know about your business?
I started my company in a classroom at the University of Houston, initially as a class project but also as a playful inside joke among my friends and I about our stock market investments. During the peak of the pandemic, I found myself with extra time to delve deeper into the world of investing but also the world of finance. I began closely observing how retail investors, institutional investors, and real estate investors managed and allocated their funds. This period was a steep learning curve where I gradually increased my knowledge and built up my risk tolerance for my investment portfolio.
As time went on, I began to see returns that far exceeded my initial expectations. Some of these returns were significantly higher than what I was earning from my job at the time so this unexpected success encouraged me to take my portfolio more seriously. I realized that my investments could serve as a powerful vehicle to achieve my long-term goal of entering the real estate market.
From the little knowledge that my parents have given me growing up regarding finance, real estate has always been a passion of mine. I dream of becoming a successful real estate investor managing a substantial portfolio and eventually becoming a real estate developer here in Texas. My vision includes building a legacy that I can pass on to my future children, hoping that they’ll continue to grow and sustain it for generations to come.
By leveraging my investment portfolio, I’m gradually making strides towards my real estate ambitions. The journey from a simple classroom project to a serious investment endeavor has been transformative, and it’s laid a solid foundation for my future endeavors in both finance and real estate.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my greatest passions is playing golf so I guess my favorite place to take anyone is to a golf course whether if we’re playing for fun or playing competitively. This year (2024), I’m focused on getting back into competitive play by participating in the Houston Amateur tournaments. These tournaments are a stepping stone for me as I work on building and maintaining my handicap, with the ultimate goal of competing in Texas Golf Association (TGA) tournaments.
My love for golf began years ago when my dad introduced me to the game. Since then, it has become a significant part of my life. We still play together almost every weekend, which has not only strengthened our bond but also fueled my competitive edge. I like to believe that if I can beat him, I can beat anyone, as he has always been a formidable opponent and a great teacher.
Through these regular matches, I continually see improvements in my game, thanks in large part to the valuable lessons and techniques my dad has shared with me. Beyond the technical skills, golf has instilled in me a profound sense of discipline. The patience, focus, and strategic thinking required on the golf course have become integral to my everyday life, influencing how I approach challenges and pursue my goal.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to start by extending a heartfelt thank you to my long-time friend Kirkland for being a crucial part of my investment journey from the very beginning. When I first started buying stocks during the peak of the pandemic in 2020, Kirkland was right there beside me. Together, we diligently read every news report, listened to numerous earnings calls, and weathered many turbulent months where our portfolios endured significant losses. Those early experiences, filled with both challenges and learning opportunities, were invaluable. They helped us understand what we were doing right and where we needed to improve. With Kirkland’s support and camaraderie, I gained the confidence and knowledge to eventually increase my holdings and take my investments seriously. As a result, I was able to capitalize on those lessons we taught ourselves and successfully start my real estate journey, culminating in the creation of Wright Capital Investments, LLC. Kirkland’s partnership and friendship have been instrumental in this journey, and I am incredibly grateful for his unwavering support and dedication.
I also want to thank my family, and the guidance of God for always supporting me, and keeping me encouraged to be confident in all the decisions I make to during this journey. I couldn’t have built the foundation of Wright Capital Investments without their unwavering support. Their belief in me has been invaluable, and I’m incredibly grateful for their role in this journey.
