We had the good fortune of connecting with Haley Welch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Haley, why did you pursue a creative career?
In 2020, the pandemic provided an unexpected opportunity to explore my creative side hustle, SwaggieScript. With a few strategic pivots (no more farmer’s markets to sell crafts) and a willingness to embrace new challenges (started painting on storefront windows during the holidays), I began receiving inquiries about permanent murals. By early 2021, my husband and I made the decision to fully commit to SwaggieScript, transitioning into large-scale mural work. Despite not having a background in painting or the arts before 2020, I embraced each new project, trusting the process and steadily improving. Now, after 2.5 years, each mural we create continues to grow in scale and impact while building a team of other creatives.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
SwaggieScript stands out because of our unique journey. We trusted the process, took bold leaps of faith, and dedicated ourselves to hard work. This commitment has enabled us to organically grow the business to new heights.

I take pride in every mural we complete—it’s an incredibly rewarding experience. I’m excited for the future of SwaggieScript, as we’ve completed worked in Texas and Louisiana, and we’re eager to expand to other states in the years ahead.

I’ve reached my current level of success by taking action, even when it made me uncomfortable. I’ve learned that growth happens in those challenging moments. I consistently seek opportunities to learn from others, whether it’s through conversations with fellow business owners, listening to podcasts, or reading books. I’m always looking to gain insights from those who have achieved the level of success I aspire to.

This journey has been anything but easy—it’s been incredibly challenging. As the creative lead, I find that managing the business and expanding the team can be difficult. However, I always strive to be the best leader I can be, ensuring my team feels supported and valued.

I overcome these challenges by discussing them with my business partner, mentors, or other business owners. I’ve learned that everyone has strengths and weaknesses when it comes to running a business, and having the right partner who can complement and balance those qualities is essential to our success.

I want people to know that if I can do this, anyone can. It takes consistency, patience, and a willingness to learn along the way. I didn’t go to business school or art school. You don’t need all the answers to know you’re on the right path.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some great places to hang out are places that SwaggieScript has partnered with in the past.

We love painting the windows at Chick-fil-A and it’s a go to for lunch!

In Tomball we love the Events Behind the Fence venue. It’s an outdoor concert venue with a great play area for kids and dogs. They have a bar, nice bathrooms, and food trucks.

For a fun activity we love Nice Birdie in Katy, Texas. It’s an indoor golf simulator.

We love strolling the streets in Downtown Historic area in Tomball to see the “Welcome to Historic Tomball” mural as we’re doing some shopping.

We love True Form Gym in Tomball, Texas to get a good work out in.

We love French Violet Boutique and Turquoise Door Boutique for shopping.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Aaron Welch, deserves significant recognition in this journey. From the early days of SwaggieScript, he saw its potential and encouraged me to fully invest in the business to see where it could lead. As the business grew, Aaron made the decision to leave his job and join SwaggieScript full-time. With his strong business mindset and expertise in managing job sites, combined with my creative vision, we’ve been able to elevate the business to new heights.
