Meet Karina Puche | Baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Karina Puche and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business was a combination of passion, necessity, and vision. As a graphic designer, I’ve always had a creative mindset, and baking became another way to express that artistry. When I emigrated to the U.S., I faced many challenges, but I also saw an opportunity to build something of my own—something that combined my skills with my love for high-quality desserts. Over time, as I became a mother, my motivation grew even stronger. New York-style cakes and cookies have a unique charm, and I wanted to bring that experience to people who appreciate bold flavors and impeccable design. My goal has always been to create not just desserts, but memorable moments for my customers!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Baking, for me, is more than just making desserts—it’s an art form where flavors, textures, and design come together to create an unforgettable experience. My background in graphic design has given me a unique perspective, allowing me to craft cakes and cookies that are not only delicious but visually striking. What sets me apart is my attention to detail, my passion for bold flavors—especially my signature pistachio creations—and my commitment to quality in every bite.
Getting to where I am today professionally hasn’t been easy. As an immigrant, I’ve faced my share of challenges, from learning the ins and outs of running a business to balancing my personal and professional life. But every obstacle has been an opportunity to grow. I’ve learned resilience, perseverance, and the importance of believing in myself, even when things get tough.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success doesn’t happen overnight. It takes hard work, dedication, and a willingness to adapt and evolve. I want the world to know that my brand is built with love, passion, and a deep desire to create desserts that bring joy to people’s lives. More than just selling cakes and cookies, I aim to create moments, memories, and a sense of indulgence that lingers long after the last bite.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend visited, I’d plan a week of good food, fun spots, and unforgettable moments.
We’d start with breakfast at a cozy café and a stroll through a local market. I’d take her for some Venezuelan food—arepas or cachapas are a must! We’d also hit iconic spots, museums, and parks.
Another day would be about nature—hiking or a picnic with my homemade desserts. I’d also take her on a food tour, ending with drinks at a rooftop bar. We’d relax with a spa day, shopping, and a cozy dinner at home.
The key is the experiences and memories we make, not just the places.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely! My journey wouldn’t have been possible without the love and support of several key people. First and foremost, my daughter—she is my biggest inspiration and the reason I push forward every day. Being a single mom and an entrepreneur is not easy, but she reminds me why I started and keeps me motivated to grow.
I also want to recognize my mother, family and close friends, who have encouraged me even in the toughest moments. Their belief in me has been a driving force behind my success.
And of course, I have to give a shoutout to my amazing customers! Their support, feedback, and love for my cakes and NY Style Cookies mean the world to me. Seeing them enjoy my creations makes all the hard work worth it.
This journey has been filled with challenges, but I’m grateful for every person who has played a role in shaping my path.
