We had the good fortune of connecting with Raven Marlowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Raven, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
What makes me happiest is my cat, my boyfriend, days out with my best friend, and creating an experience where someone feels seen, beautiful, and empowered.
In my beauty business, I find it an absolute MUST to use my creativity to transform someone’s day and even self esteem.
Seeing a client’s demeanor and face completely light up when they see their new look is a feeling that never gets old. It reminds me why I chose this industry: to combine my art with human connection. That 5 minutes of pure joy before checkout after up to 7 hours of work will ALWAYS make my millenia.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art, just like me, is an amalgamation of everyone I have ever met that has impacted me.
Swirls from my mother, sharp angles drawn with Haste from my father, visible brush strokes and anime highlights from my sister. All of these are visible in my art, along with my own specific niches- well blended vibrant shades, big transformations, the use of florals in everything.

Raven Marlowe’s Rose-Tinted Vanity (Rose-Tinted Vanity/RTV for short) is similar. It’s an amalgamation of things I love or have grown to love as I’ve aged. RTV mixes beautiful dusty florals with the stunning wood work made so popular in the Victorian era. 1950’s graphics and starlets, vintage hair styles and wet sets, modern vibrant colors and shag cuts.

I wouldn’t say I’ve had an easy existence but it also couldn’t be categorized as catastrophic. My family had their struggles- poverty, loss, and deeper. But the one constant through it was Art. Creation and Nuture is already in my nature as a woman, but my creativity and art is completely natural and one of the only ways I can truly express myself and emotions. I either belt out an Amy Winehouse song, Pick up a paint brush, or I grab my shears. I prefer it to talking things through, I never think things through- I never have time. But art, it forces you to be seated and give it your full attention.
To lay it all out on the page, hair bleach never lies, neither will your paint brush.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmm, a week long trip?

I don’t think I could plan an entire week right now- but I can definitely give some places that I’ve had a wonderful time at!

I love love love the food and arts scene in Houston.

Sawyer Yards, Art Car, Contemporary art Muesem, and Grafitti street are places I could spend hours at, I’ve taken multiple models there for my photography, I’ve studied pieces to find the deeper meaning that could have just been something as light as “I like bold colors and apples”. I believe there’s always a deep meaning, you just have to put yourself in their psyche.

Kulture is a fantastic blend of wonderful food and unmatched energy. Ninfas on Navigation, Rice Box, and Xochi have fantastic eats and aesthetics. There used to be a retro style pizza place next to Avant Garden that I loved, but COVID consumed them whole.

I am a pinup through and through and I LOVE a good Tikki bar. I don’t drink very often but Lei Low, Voodoo Queen, and Loose Cannon are all beautiful with great pricing.

I’m not much of a club scene person anymore, but I’ve heard a lot of fun be had at Numbers and South beach- even if I think the floor is a little too sticky.

I love shopping, and so does my bestie. Let me put on my best wiggle dress unroll my hair and hit the town!
Color explosion, EverGirl Vintage, and Flaming Heart have fantastic finds!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My story would not be where it is without a few key people in my life.

My best friend Kayla above all else, we’ve been essentially fused at the hip since 2020, she always lets me bounce ideas, breakdowns, and fashion choices off of her. She is an essential part of my life, making sure every legal part that I need to do is done or at least at the forefront of my mind.

My wonderful partner, Hanselt, has been a ray of sunshine in my once very cold life. He pushes me where others wouldn’t dare to, one of the only people who can criticize me in the most basic of ways and yet has the most impact on me. He is wonderfully stern and supportive, only wanting the absolute best for me.

My aunts, my family, my Oma, My oldest friendships have all helped to shape me into who I am today- and without their love, support, and willingness to say what only family can- have shaped me into who I am today, and their support as an adult has made more waves than before.

I can’t forget myself, I have put in a lot of hubcaps to get myself where I am today, and I frequently leave the most important person for last or out completely. I am a force to be reckoned with, no longer just dust in the wind, and soon everyone will know.
