We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaylee Velasquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaylee, what matters most to you?
The principle that matters most to me is leading with authenticity, kindness, and heart. In every area of my life, especially in business, I prioritize genuine connection. I don’t believe in performing or pretending just to fit a standard of any type. I believe in showing up as I am, being considerate of others, and staying grounded in what I know is right. When I work with clients or collaborate on projects, it’s never just about execution. I take the time to really understand their vision, feel their energy, and mirror that passion in the most thoughtful and true-to-them way possible. I care deeply about the people I work with, not just what they do, but how they do it and what they stand for.

At the end of the day, I think leading with your values quietly attracts the right people. And I trust that when I move with integrity, the rest aligns.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve always been drawn to creating and building things that feel like me. In high school, I was selling cupcakes and brownies out of my backpack, vlogging family trips, and helping my dad make a website for his business- just for fun. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was already working towards the creative, entrepreneurial path I’d end up on. Over the years, I started learning more about design, content, and social media, and eventually that all led me to start my own marketing business.

Today, I run a full-service marketing brand where I specialize in social media management, brand advising, content strategy, graphic design, photography, and video, including but limited to Reels and TikToks. I work both behind and in front of the camera, helping brands bring their vision to life in a way that feels real, aligned, and built with purpose. Whether it’s strategy, execution, or creative direction, I love being the person that helps bring ideas into motion.

What sets me apart from other’s would be how I move with intention, not ego. I don’t believe in chasing visibility or working from a place of performance. I focus on energy, alignment, and doing the work in a way that actually feels good. I once held a director position for a community-focused club, and while I was proud of the role, I eventually stepped down because I knew the values no longer reflected the mission and the end goal was not something I aligned with. That experience reminded me that integrity isn’t just a personal trait, it’s a business principle.

This journey hasn’t been perfect or linear. I’ve been learning and growing since I was 18, teaching myself through experience, figuring it out as I go, and finding ways to push forward even in uncertain seasons. I’m someone who works through challenges as they come. If something isn’t working, I’ll find a solution, try again, and keep it moving. I always tell people that there isn’t a job that I’ve had that, I feel, is less then the other because every step, and role has taught me something valuable and how to become better at what I do.

I’m proud that I’ve built something that feels like a full reflection of who I am, creative, intentional, driven by purpose, and grounded in real values. My hope is that when people work with me or come across my brand, they feel that too. Because you don’t have to follow a blueprint to build something meaningful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting Houston, I’d want them to experience it the way I do, through the energy of small businesses, neighborhood spots, and the kind of moments that don’t show up on a top 10, but you always remember.

We’d start with the butterfly room in the Science Museum before taking advantage of free Museum Thursday visiting both the Museum of Fine Arts and the Contemporary Arts Museum, with a stop at Le Jardinier, the Michelin-starred restaurant with the most refreshing Brazilian lemonade-inspired mocktail topped with a pistachio rim.

At night, we’d get dressed for Bald Kitty, depending on the theme, or head to Pour Behaviour to visit the sweetest server Tania for brick-oven pizza and a mimosa tower. One night would definitely be reserved for dinner at Drake’s, their food is next level delicious and their interior is gorgeous. And of course, we’d slow things down with a night at The Tall Texan, playing darts and saying hi to George and Jesse while Liz whips us the best lemondrop shots in the city.

During the day, we’d stop for iced matcha, supporting a favorite small business of mine. Amado Coffee, a pop-up cart owned by an amazing local vendor and friend. We’d shop antique shops, boutique stores, and limited sneakers along West 19th in the Heights, grab the Houstonian sandwich at Second Slice in Iron Works, and spend an afternoon picnicking at Discovery Green. I’d definitely pull her along to Plank2Pike for a Pilates class with Ida, a NEEDED reset. And if it’s a Wednesday, we’re heading to Velocity Sim Racing Lounge for Ladies Night, where the girlies drive free.

If she’s lucky enough to visit in March, I’d take her to experience Houston Rodeo season, my favorite Houston tradition. And if she came around now, I’d have to take her to an Astros game to experience Friday night fireworks and bring her to White Linen Night in the Heights to experience one of the city’s best community moments. On a Monday night, we’d hit up Postino for their $25 bruschetta board and bottle deal, it’s my favorite lowkey dinner. And of course, we’d wrap the weekend with a stop at the Montrose Sunday Market, hopefully catching vendors like Valencia Charm Bar, or Silver Kay. Nothing beats shopping small and seeing the city’s creativity up close.

Houston isn’t just one thing, it’s so extremely diverse and unique. I’d wanna share not just the places that are worth going but also the people that make it a community you’d wanna be apart of.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Throughout my entrepreneurial journey, I’ve been lucky to meet so many people who’ve shaped the person I am and encouraged me to chase my dreams. My mom and older siblings have always listened to my ideas with open minds and full support, while always being the backbone of my emotional support. My partner, Victor, has been the kindest, most patient presence through it all encouraging me to be the loudest in the room, taking risks, and fully go after what I believe in, never once asking me to shrink. He listens to every idea, goal, and “what if,” reminding me constantly that I’m on track and it’s okay to breath. And of course, my two dogs, the emotional support duo who keep me grounded and present. I’m also incredibly grateful for the company that surrounds me. The team and community at The Tall Texan II have welcomed such warmth, humor, and loyalty into my life becoming the perfect wfh spot and such a powerful reminder of what it is to be surrounded by people who see you, support you, and let you show up fully as yourself.
