Meet KITURA SMITH

We had the good fortune of connecting with KITURA SMITH and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KITURA, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I love this question. It gives me the opportunity to share my story with others. My thought process behind starting my own business was really rooted in resilience and passion. For years, cooking was something I did to support my family and bring people together, but when life threw unexpected challenges—like job loss and the pandemic—I realized it was also my calling. Instead of letting those setbacks define me, I leaned into the gift passed down from my grandmother’s hands. I wanted to create something that wasn’t just about food, but about experiences, memories, and joy on a plate. Starting All About the Minis was my way of turning survival into purpose and building a business that could feed both stomachs and souls.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is expressed through food — not just cooking but creating experiences. What sets me apart is that I’ve carved a niche with tapas-style dining, taking small bites and turning them into big, memorable moments. Each dish is designed to tell a story, spark conversation, and bring people together in ways that go beyond just eating. I’m most proud of how All About the Minis has evolved into a brand that people recognize not only for flavor, but for creativity and heart.
The journey here was far from easy. I’ve faced job loss, setbacks, and moments of uncertainty. But every challenge pushed me to lean on my faith, my resilience, and the lessons passed down from my grandmother and my mom. I overcame those obstacles by trusting my gift, embracing community support, and staying committed to excellence no matter what.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you can’t rush the process — growth takes time, consistency, and the courage to keep showing up even when doors close.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is simple: All About the Minis isn’t just about food, it’s about moments. Whether it’s a corporate event, a private dinner, or one of my signature charcuterie displays, my mission is to create unforgettable experiences that nourish both body and soul. My story is one of turning challenges into opportunities, and I hope it inspires others to do the same.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Atlanta for a week, I’d curate an experience that blends good food, culture, and relaxation. We’d start with brunch — because Atlanta does brunch like no other. One day it might be at a local favorite like The Breakfast Boys for a soulful start, and another day I’d prepare one of my own signature brunch spreads at home so they could taste All About the Minis firsthand.
For mornings, we’d enjoy coffee and conversation at Omni Coffee & Eggs. The ambiance there is simply adorable — it has a Bridgerton vibe that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into something whimsical and elegant, the perfect backdrop for great conversation. For evenings, I’d mix it up — maybe a rooftop vibe at Ponce City Market or Skyline Park to take in the view, and another night at a local jazz lounge for live music and cocktails.
During the day, I’d want to balance culture, nature, and fun. We’d explore The National Center for Civil and Human Rights* for a powerful dose of history, hike Stone Mountain Park for breathtaking views, stroll the Atlanta Beltline for art and energy, and spend a day at the Atlanta Botanical Garden to unwind and recharge.
Of course, food is a must! I’d take them to Herb’s Rib Shack for authentic BBQ that tastes like home and let them sample a variety of flavors throughout the week.
The week would end with something unforgettable: a private dinner experience that I’d host, where I’d create a custom tapas-style menu and end on a sweet note with one of my signature mini desserts. To me, the best time in Atlanta is a mix of food, culture, music, nature, and connection — and that’s exactly the experience I’d want to share.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without question, my biggest shoutout goes to my late grandmother, Geneva, and my mother, Sandi. My grandmother’s hands were the first to show me the power of love in cooking — she planted the seeds of my culinary artistry. My mother has always been my rock, cheering me on and reminding me of my worth even in the toughest seasons. Their strength and resilience live in me every day.
On the business side, I am deeply grateful for my coaches, mentors, and peers who continue to pour into me. From the Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs (RICE) to the Atlanta Black Chambers, I’ve been surrounded by a community that challenges me, sharpens me, and pushes me to grow beyond my comfort zone. My journey is a blend of legacy and community, and I’m thankful for both my family and my village for shaping who I am today.
