Meet Josiah Outerbridge | Photographer & Fashion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Josiah Outerbridge and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josiah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to bring a surrealistic yet artistic approach to fashion. Many times we see up coming brands who represent an idea or message , but I wanted to empower a concept. I wanted my brand to make you question everything that you thought you knew. I’ve been drawing since the age of 5 and that gradually grew into a love for creating. When I started my clothing brand ( The Onyx Image) , I wanted to let anyone of any demographic know that reinventing yourself is a choice and positivity is an action. Every single piece that I create has a crafted quote that I’ve made to spread the concept I just produced for you all. I want people to self reflect and understand that who we are starts as a question but doesn’t have to end that way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I truly believe art speaks for it self , so I’ve made a conscious effort to make sure my art does the same. The main difference between my art and anyone else’s is the amount of dedication and care goes into anything I create . Not only have I spent hundreds of hours creating but I also pride myself on the uniqueness of my creations. My use of color and or literature helps create surrealistic artwork or fashion that is not easily replicated. At this particular moment I’m very excited and I’m anticipating the release of my Sherbet Collection this fall. I’ve built my brand from the ground up by doing anything I possibly could to get any individual to just take a look . It has not been easy , let me say that first , but it’s also been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had . I’ve had countless friends push me along the way . There has been many nights I’ve wanted to quit , nights I’ve cried myself to sleep , but the light at the end of the tunnel was also a whisper that sticks with me , “ keep going “. One lesson I’ve learned since starting my journey is presentation is everything and should be catered with care. I want the world to know that the fashion I create may be an acquired taste but it’s definitely one that will be remembered. This brand is not here for a moment but a movement . I want the world to understand that self growth requires courage no matter where you are or your background ,and it takes one willing to sacrifice it all in order to achieve true enlightenment .

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First off we’re going to petty cash to shop lol , that has to be one of the best vintage style clothing stores I’ve ever been to. For dinner we are probably going to tornado burger definitely . Houston has so many beautiful places to go I would definitely recommend the glassel school of art , or the Japanese guardian in downtown for sights . I love to roller skate personally so we may head over to fun plex in southwest Houston to skate a bit .
