We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Barber and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I’ve always been a hard worker and for the longest time, I threw ALL my energy at work. But once I added becoming a parent to the mix, I quickly realized I wanted to shift priorities to working to live versus living to work. Now as an entrepreneur, I realize work-life balance is a balancing act that needs regular adjustment! Now, I focus on simplifying and systemizing the less important things — such as daily work processes and home chores + errands — as much as possible, so I can devote the bulk of my energy and attention to the things that matter most to me: time with family, close relationships, self-care, parenting, and doing meaningful work that is close to my heart!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Simply Maven empowers you to clear space, organize, and truly transform your life for simplicity and ease. We are uniquely trained in the KonMari school of thought of finding what sparks joy and I am Houston’s first certified KonMari Consultant and an approved speaker by KonMari Inc., Marie Kondo’s parent company. We give you the confidence, support, and accountability by offering tools & services for a joy-filled life. My business partner Jane and I help our clients not only to go through their possessions but the overwhelming feelings that can come with it. It’s not the fastest, or necessarily the easiest approach, but we feel it is the most lasting and powerful approach. It can be challenging to feel like you are swimming against the stream in a world that is obsessed with hacks and quick fixes, but sticking to the “quality over quantity” philosophy is essential to our brand and our mission.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to my business partner, Jane McCullough, who has always been my biggest supporter in maintaining work-life balance. Her perspective and advice keep me focused on the bigger picture and help me curb my workaholic tendencies. She is also a master simplifier/editor (which is what makes her an amazing organizer and partner) and is so great at making sure we put the priorities first.
