We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebekah Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebekah, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I am a mental health and lifestyle blogger and I specialize in empowering stressed women with the tools and resources to foster and nurture their mental health so they can thrive. Mental health and mental illness has always been such a taboo subject in society and my goal is to help normalize these conversations and share my story so others won’t feel so isolated and alone and will be able to get the help they need. If we take a look at the facts, 1 in 3 people in the US will suffer from a mental illness episode at some point in their life and we need to stop the stigmatization. We need to stop treating people who struggle with mental illnesses any different than people who struggle from physical illnesses. Providing education, awareness, and a compassionate community is how I’m trying to flip that script.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey was definitely not easy or straightforward. When I started cultivating a brand as a blogger, I started out as a petite fashion blogger. The longer I spent on social media trying to grow, the more I became discouraged with how fake it could be. And how detrimental it could be to someone’s mental health. I then decided to make it my mission to inject some real-ness back into a highlight reel world. So I started sharing my story. First, I began by sprinkling in my own mental illness struggles. Then as I received feedback that people were being impacted by my content, I really tuned into my passion which was helping start mental health conversations. My BA in Psychology has definitely helped as I’ve fully transitioned my page to a mental health advocacy page. I am really happy with the direction that I’ve chosen and the community that I’ve been able to cultivate that supports and lifts each other up and doesn’t back down from having the tough conversations about social issues. My feedback for someone starting out is that it takes a lot of effort. You aren’t going to be a major success overnight. You are going to have to sell your value. Social media growth is all about building community and doing that takes time and doesn’t come easy. It will be frustrating but if you are passionate about curating content and cultivating a community, it will be worth it. The biggest advice I can give to a newbie content creator is to know what unique value you bring to the table, be specific when you choose your niche, and be strategic when establishing your brand, and ENGAGE, ENGAGE, ENGAGE. Being a digital creator is being on social platforms, so be social!
