We don’t believe success is random. Over the years we have spoken with hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs, artists, creatives, researchers, athletes, and more. We’ve learned from them – both through their stories and through the advice they’ve shared with us – and it’s quite evident that success is more likely when certain habits are present. So, we decided to ask folks to share their habits with us, especially those that they feel helped them succeed.

There are a few habits I’ve learned along the way that have helped me propel to new heights. The first was courage. Courage to believe that what you see in your future, you can achieve. There are many fears in this world and if you believe them, you will dwell in your life. The moment I learned to boldly confront my fears, I started weighting my options between what will lead me there and what will push me further away. I then choose steps that got me closer to where I wanted to be. The next is consistency. Staying focused and continuing to move forward is key. Much of my success comes from my background in theater. I have a BFA in theater design from Carnegie Mellon University and having that degree has helped me be the artist I am today. Theater design taught me so much about designing for so many environments, which I use when I create art. Theater also taught me how to stay disciplined to my craft. I paint everyday, and I try to start painting before I look at any screen. Theater also taught me the importance of collaboration which is a skill I use everyday as an artist and Creative Director for JLA Art. I often hold an open studio where other artists come over and we all paint together and bounce ideas off each other. It is a great non – judgmental environment where we help push each other to the next level and try new techniques.
