We had the good fortune of connecting with Aisha Albritton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aisha, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When I first started my business, It was all work and no play. I felt like I had to stay focused on what was in front of me at all times. I stayed that way for 12 years and I was VERY successful HOWEVER, I had to realize that without taking time for myself to stop and enjoy the fruits of my labor…I missed out on a lot of the little joys that make life what it is. I was so ready to tackle the next project, campaign or event…I completely forgot to congratulate myself on the job I just finished. It was always go, go, go for me. I regret that now. You have to stop and smell the roses. You have to create boundaries for yourself and your clients or you will definitely become consumed and often times when that happens, you get overwhelmed and start to loose the love you once had! Remember, what is for you will always be for you so it’s ok to stop, take a break, spend time with friends and family AND STILL be a bad A** at work!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I founded Atlanta Media Partners because I couldn’t find a job in the public relations industry to save my life. I managed to get an internship at a small boutique company where I honestly didn’t learn a thing! So one day I was sitting at the airport, working a job I hated and I decided right then and there I HAD to get out of there. I didn’t know what I was going to do or how I was going to get started but I knew my life was destined for more than the airport. I went home and got on my knees and prayed, I cried and asked god for a direction or a sign. I got up, took a shower and then got a phone call from a guy I knew who managed the successful R&B Group, Jagged Edge. He asked me would I be interested in doing some PR work for the group!! Of course I said yes and the rest is history. It hasn’t been easy but over the last 15 years, Atlanta Media Partners has reached levels of success I never would have dreamed of! I’ve created public relations campaigns for artists and reality stars like Shay Johnson of Love and Hip Hop Miami, Faith Evans, Chrisette Michele, R. Kelly, Jagged Edge, Ken Ford, Ricco Barrino, Mykko Montana and more. I’ve also curated various brand campaigns for The NFL, The Coca Cola Company, The Lisa Left Eye Lopes Foundation and Children’s Health Care of Atlanta, to name a few. In 2010 I expanded my business and created a event production sector due to a demand from my clients. I have produced events for the likes of Kevin Hart, Bad Boy ENT, Hip Hop Weekly, VH1, NYFW, The NFL, The Diamond Awards, The BET Sound Stage and more! I have also managed a 5 million dollar radio budget, created advertisements that still play over the airways to this day, I have consulted on the opening of some of the most popular clubs in Atlanta and Houston and have even been approached by various networks to create a reality show about my life and business. This journey has not been easy by any means but I am so proud of myself and the continued growth of my business! I want the world to know that IF you want to do something…you 100% can. It just takes hard work, dedication, and focus!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well if my besties, Toni, Cerrisa and Meena, were visiting I’d create a super fun itinerary of things to do in Houston. Please see below!! Monday: Galleria Mall, Moxies for lunch, stop by the Candy Shack Daiquiri Shop, then head to Grand Lux for dinner (keep it light!) Tuesday: Snooze Kitchen for breakfast, National Science Museum and Taste Bar & Kitchen for dinner! Wednesday: Space Museum, and Mastros or Bloom and Bee for dinner/drinks! Thursday: Take a stroll through Hernan Park, and head Glorias for lunch then to Mary’s Hookah Lounge for hookah, drinks and dinner. Afterwards we can stop by Prospect Park! As it’s the weekend we would have to link up with my H-town crew Jonah, Kim, Chanda, Erica and Tanese! They are All a blast and make the weekends amazing!! So we’d all go to the following: Friday: Lunch at The Turkey Leg Hut, Happy Hour at Urban Social, Dinner at Phil and Derek’s to check out their live band and Bar 2200 if we are feeling frisky! Saturday: Head to Galveston to go to Pleasurer Pier! Once we get back we will hit Davenport for some EXTREMLY delicious yet STRONG drinks, then we’d stumble our way to Bar 5015 later that night! Sunday: Bisou for brunch, then Chapman and Kirby or Bar 5015 for Sunday Funday
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this to all the induvial that have trusted me to be a part of their journey. From the young ladies I’ve mentored and trained to the amazing staff I’ve had over the years. I couldn’t do what I do without you! I’d also like to thank my clients. I’ve worked with some amazing brands, athletes, musicians, actors, models, television shows/ networks, venues and more! Their faith in me and my staff has been amazing and I appreciate them for trusting Atlanta Media Partners with their vision and goals. Lastly, I’d like to thank my tribe…My squad of friends, family, lovers and even the hater for always encouraging me, uplifting me, supporting me, pushing me, doubting me and believing in me!
