We had the good fortune of connecting with Kirisa Mahon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kirisa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I believe there’s a lot of unexpected anxiety that comes along with starting a business. When I first started my business, It took me a long time to start because I allowed fear to take over me which delayed the processed for almost 6 months. Your mind will run wild with the free access you have to social media or the internet to soak up so much information. It can be overwhelming at times because you have so many people telling you the “right path” to be successful in the field you’re interested in. I started to enjoy the process more when I started incorporating more of my personality in my brand and added a sprinkle of other people guidance. I would recommend people to not get so consumed by the glitz and glamour on social media to keep up with the business race to success. I come to realize that you have to trust the process and know that every effort you put into your business is trial and error.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m most proud of having enough courage to start a business. Yummy Secrets LLC, an all natural skincare product line that was establish November 26, 2019 in my two-story town house! I always had entrepreneurship instilled in me but I was so afraid to start a because I didn’t want to do it alone and also my peers wasn’t doing anything like that either. Growing up my mother Ms. Lisa Jones would always talk about starting a business but you know as a teenager and growing up some parental advice goes through one ear and out the other. I didn’t realize the importance of starting a business until after college! When I realized my first corporate job, I knew I couldn’t do this 9-5 job for40 more years! I had to come up with a plan. The road to entrepreneurship wasn’t hard but it wasn’t a easy breezy couple of months either! I did a lot of trial and error to figure everything out with the extracurricular activities I was already participating in on the weekly basis. I was trying to see if the things I enjoy doing such as being mentor at two different organizations could I make them into a lifestyle/ business. I quickly realize that my time and effort with that is only for seasonal dedication. After that didn’t work out, I started to look around my house because your very gift that I was searching for is right in front of me! Skincare! Before I started using “Self-Care” in my daily list of vocabulary I was doing that every single day! I enjoyed it. I felt like taking a moment for yourself was something I needed to recharge for that day or week. Then I started doing research and development. That’s when I knew my first business was going through skincare. There were several months of research and development , trial and error , getting feedback from people and spending a lot of money on ingredients! There were some challenges along the way especially when you’re trying to develop the right direction for your business. But I was able to endure it all by seeking God for guidance committing myself to prayer and meditation. Building this brand I learned a lot about myself and what type of person and boss that I am. I learned the value of patience and knowledge within a business and interacting with new people that support me and my brand! As my business continues to grow, I would like for people to take the timeout for themselves because it’s important. I know that we are busy bee’s in the world working our butts off but a lot of times we do not gives ourselves enough credit and safe space to take care ourselves. I would like for everyone that supports me and my business the importance of self-care and skin-care maintenance. “If you take care of your body, your body will take care of you.”
