We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Allison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, how do you think about risk?
Most risk in life is eventually rewarded. Often risk is viewed in a negative light, when in reality some of the biggest risks I have taken have lead to some amazing rewards. Moving to Houston by far has been the riskiest and scariest thing I have done in my life. The original “dream” job I moved here for ended after just one year due to contract issues, My second job was cut short due to the pandemic, At that point I could have said to myself that this risk was not going provide anything positive, 2 years into living in a new city I bought a condo, lost two jobs, ended a relationship, and was isolated for months due to a novel disease raging through the nation. Yet, I didn’t retreat back to Florida. Although, I still don’t feel I am where I would like to be ultimately career wise. I would not be where I am at now if it was not for that move 3 years ago to Houston. I have private clients now with SarahAllisonWellness ( SavvyeatsRD) and I also became a certified yoga instructor teaching two – three times weekly. Everything that happened in these last three years happened on purpose because I decided to take that job offer. The job offer was just the catalyst to the life changing events that were to take place that now I can say I am so beyond thankful for. My personal and career growth has been the result of risk. Thriving from the unimaginable, I am grateful.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As the owner of Sarah Allison Wellness I provide down to earth, evidence based nutrition counseling services to those looking to achieve variety of health goals. As a Type 1 Diabetic having dealt with managing chronic disease early in my life, I have a unique perspective when it comes to my nutrition coaching. I am excited to help clients understand that living healthier doesn’t require adapting fad diet or counting macros. I enjoy talking about food and nutrition and helping those who I work with establish a more balanced relationship with food. Business-wise, It has been a long journey of trial and error and finally conquering my fear of the unknown to start taking on personal clients. It was not easy to put myself out there and still isn’t. I continue to work toward overcoming the many challenges faced throughout this process of starting my own business. Understanding that I don’t have control of others and the future, that I can only do my best in any situation helps to overcome challenges. I have learned that letting go of things that are out of my control helps in de-cluttering my mind and lends space to new ideas. My hope is that my values and wellness philosophy remain intertwined with my business as it continues to grow, and that most of all I help to inspire positive change in every person I interact with.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Weekend with the bestie in Houston would include a visit to Eleanor Tinsley or Memorial Park, Coffee/breakfast at Blacksmith or Catalina, bike ride around white oak / heights bike trail, drinks at better luck tomorrow, wicklow heights, anvil or julep, burgers at Stantons City Bites or Nancy’s Hustle maybe a day trip to the beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be the woman I am today without the support from the friends I have made here in Houston as well as those back home in Florida. They each hold a very special place in my heart. I am so thankful to the wonderful yoga teacher trainers who supported me throughout my yoga training this year, who introduced me to the inspirational book by Don Miguel Ruiz “The Four Agreements”, which principle teachings have become a foundational tool I continue to use throughout my daily life. Finally, I would like to give a special shout out to Mario, gym owner at Deviant Strength. I don’t think you understand the extent to which meeting you has impacted my life. I am beyond thankful for the encouragement, the support and for the genuine kindness you’ve shown me this year. You inspire me to do and to be better. Thank You.
