We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Richardson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
When starting a business my thought process is always the value that it would bring to myself and others. The value is in solving a problem that people have. If I am able to create something that solves a problem for others, then to me that is valuable. As Zig Ziglar once said, the key to becoming wealthy is helping enough people get what they want, and in return you will receive everything that you want. And what I want for myself, my family, and the next generation is time and financial freedom.
Now, what is a problem that most people have? Most people want to make more money. Especially during and after experiencing the most recent global pandemic in 2020. Therefore I created BNB CLASS: SIMPLIFIED a little over a year ago. Which is a course and coaching platform that teaches people how to make money in real estate with short term rentals, without owning any property. Also known as Airbnb, VRBO, etc. In the first 5 months I have been able to help over 600 students that came thru the program, acquire at least one short term rental unit. From college students to retired senior citizens. Over 7000 people domestically and internationally have purchased the program. Several students have scaled to multiple 6-figures and some even 7-figures.
It is extremely fulfilling knowing that so many lives have been impacted in such a positive way by something that I’ve created. In my prayers I always ask God to use me in whatever way he see fit in order to make a positive impact someone else’s life. Seems like this is His way of doing so.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
The path to success and high quality living is not an easy one, if so every body would be free. Time free and financially free. As someone once said, if it were easy, everybody would do it. Since a child I always wanted to live a high quality life, which to me is a life of abundance and freedom. Freedom to do what I want, when I want, with whom ever I want, without money being a concern, And that is not something that can be easily obtained. Why? Because of the lack of information. I truly believe that information changes situations. I’ve tried and failed at so many things. I failed in school and was kicked out of college. I never held a job for no more than 2 years, other than property management being that I truly enjoyed it. So much so that in 2018 I was recognized by MultiHousingNews.com as one of the top leasing professionals in the country. I tried and failed at so many different endeavors from barbering, photography and video production, online radio show, network marketing, and wholesaling real estate. But I never gave up because my reason to figure it out and keep going is much bigger than me. I have people that depend on me, my children who look to me as their example. And if I decide to quit, then what type of example would I be to them? I kept going until something finally clicked.
Now the reason this business clicked is one, I started to ask God to bring quality people into my life and to remove the ones that are a distraction and not adding value. I started to choose my friends and not let my friends choose me. I switched up my circle of friends and influences. At the end of the day, we are like the people that we talk to and spend the most time with for no reason. I also invest thousands of dollars into mentorship and a lot of self-education. My family didn’t come from money, was not financially educated in some ways. And school does not teach these essential lessons. Most traditional educators teach theory, not experience. Therefore I had to educate myself. Making a lot of money is cool and all, but it’s not about how much money you can make, but how much of it can you keep? As far as my career in property management I took it very seriously. Being that I do not have a college education nor am I skilled with my hands, it was tough for me to get a high-paying job. So I treated my career in property management like an apprenticeship. I learned the ins and outs of leasing, being a landlord/property manager. I was hired on at $16/hr and by the time I resigned I was on salary at $48,000/year. Which was as far as someone like me with no degree could get to. Not to mention, no one in corporate looked like me. I then started my own property management company where we lease from landlords and property managers then sublease to a subtenant. Which is the legal definition of rental arbitrage.
We acquired our first unit in Atlanta, GA and have since expanded to Texas. After acquiring our first unit and listing it on Airbnb, VRBO, and Furnished Finder, all the questions started coming in, “Did you buy the property?”, “Do you have to own it to list it online?”, so on and so forth. And it started to become over whelming. That is when I decided to create a course, which has been able to help hundreds of thousands of people from here in the US, the UK, Canada, and Brazil thus far.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well of course the Houston Galleria for shopping. Helen’s Kitchen for some good Jamaican cuisine, 401 Table and Tap, Ninfas is my favorite Mexican spot. Agas is my favorite spot for Indian cuisine, and also Grub Food Truck Park has really good food options. Grand Lux Cafe never misses either. My nieces Ciara and Rachel who manage our properties in Texas are the real foodies, and always recommend the best spots.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First I would have to shout out my Lord and Savior, might sound typical or cheesy to some but God is truly the head of my life and involved in any and every business decision that I make. And of course my wife Keshia-Ann Richardson who is my number one supporter. My sons Chase and Caleb Richardson who are the ultimate reason I continue to strive for excellence and create something that can be passed on to them and for generations to come. My mother, Rose Richardson who is always available for encouragement when times get tough and even when things are going well. She always reminds me to stay grounded, keep God first, and that anything God giveth, he can taketh away. My partner and admin team, Kareem “ReemTeam” Sargeant, who is truly a marketing genius, and strategist.
