We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Pittman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

I started off in high school taking pictures at my friends de quinces and sweet 16’s. I’ve always been a creative person and knew I wanted to be a photographer. As I grew older and made a business out of my hobby I wanted to be sure I provided an affordable service . That’s why I work with any budget. Everyone deserves to feel great about themselves.

My style was always a more fashionable one so my pictures never seemed boring. I started attending events and parties hosted by fellow photographer John Tucker and that’s when I got more into the entertainment industry . Through John I was able to network and start working with models , designers , music artists etc.

I would say that in the beginning you have to be willing to work for free or for less. You’ll miss out on amazing portfolio building opportunities if you don’t drill this into your head. Part of what sets me apart is my quality for the price . I don’t charge per pose , location , outfit like other photographers. I charge below market rate and provide exceptional quality with just an hourly rate and no additives. I truly believe everyone should have the opportunity to be professionally photographed. I remember my parents bought my camera senior year because it was cheaper to buy a camera than take senior pictures somewhere else.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
On top of being a photographer I am a paid social media influencer so I’m constantly busy pumping out content. I run a food review and cooking account , produce digital and physical art and play video games which I will be adding to my business soon as a streamer. I am also working on my own brand launching 2023 called Stargirl which will be a skincare and boutique brand reminiscent of libby lu but with expanded aesthetics. Being a photographer I am able to cut costs by filming and photographing all of this content on my own. I’m a huge advocate for turning your hobbies into business opportunities be that watching anime or cooking tasty meals.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

A part of my brand is that I’m not just a photographer. I have worked for franki doing food reviews as well as I have a cooking account.

My main spots I would recommend to people visiting are

1. Kemah
2. Chiba hot pot
3. Sixty vines
4. Cidercade
5. Museum of art
6. Pops smokehouse bbq
7. Discovery green
8. Post HTX
9. Electric game box
10.The galleria

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents bought me my first camera freshman year and when it was stolen they bought me my second senior year . A month ago my house burned down and my aunts and friend Dare replaced a large amount of my equipment. I want to give my special shout-out to them as I wouldn’t be where I am without them. My friends and family are the reason that I am able to do what I love and I’m forever grateful for their continued love and support. As well as the beautiful  repeat clients that have trusted me with their projects and creative visions.
