We asked some of the brightest folks in the community to open up to us about the most important lesson their business or career has taught them. We’ve highlighted some of those responses below.

True success is earned, not given. Anything worth having is going to require much time, sacrifice, and effort. There will always be challenges and obstacles; however, each of those challenges and obstacles can be overcome and you have everything you need to do so. Obstacles simply provide opportunities for growth and learning so don’t become discouraged and don’t give up. I have definitely learned a lot of lessons being a makeup artist, but the most important one I’ve learned so far is that you can’t succeed with your business unless you actually love what you are doing. I learned to not see my business as just a business but to see it as something that I know is going to make someone feel relaxed and beautiful. I feel extremely happy when I see my clients have positive reactions to my work. Read more>>

It’s a lesson I am still learning, but it is that of self-worth. Knowing what that is and valuing it. I, like a lot of other creative professionals, doubt my work from time to time and I am constantly my own worst critic. It took a long time for me to understand that if you don’t value your work and time and effort, you’ll never know its worth, and neither will anyone else. Read more>>
