We had the good fortune of connecting with Ellion Self and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ellion, has the Coronavirus Crisis changed how you think about work life balance?
The Covid-19 Crisis has actually allowed me to slow down and be present with my family even while maintaining to work full time. It has given me more time to be productive. It has cut out my hours spent commuting or worrying about my physical appearance and that extra time has gone towards spending time with my family. A true silver lining.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I usually get the biggest reaction for the fact that I am a professional engineer AND have a creative business. I’ve always had a love for art and design however college took me a different route to pursue engineering. My creative business allows my brain to switch back and forth from thinking left-brained in my profession to right brained for my business. My business and my profession both help me to learn different aspects and apply them to each. Be it logic, marketing, sales, engineering, etc.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Being that we live in the heights I usually like to show friends and family our favorite spots around the heights. For day drinking or hanging out onion creek, cedar creek, eight row flint, or heights beer garten. For shopping heights mercantile and 19th street. For dinner or brunch postino, dish society, field and tides, liberty kitchen, rainbow lodge, B&B butchers, bb lemon, or whatever is new and hoppin’! Being involved in lots of local small markets and coordinated one my self at Height Mercantile I also make sure to check out the weekly events that might be going on around town to show them all the special things that houston has to offer.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband. He listens and gives insight from another perspective on my business and career. He allows me to follow my dreams and also tells me when I’m working too hard.
