We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Robins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process was simply to start a business that I really loved. I didn’t want to start a business just because of the money, I wanted to do something I was passionate about and I knew I would enjoy doing on a daily. I’ve always had a passion for kid’s fashion, so starting this boutique was the ideal business for me. I knew I could start by using my own kids as models until I was able to grow and branch out. The planned worked and I’ve worked with many celebrity kids all over to help build my brand.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m naturally a very creative person, so it just flows over into my business effortlessly. I come up with a lot of my designs and content in the middle of the night, when I’m up alone and able to really think and focus. Most of the time, creative things will come to me out the blue and I immediately take action. What sets me apart from other kid boutiques is I don’t compare my boutique to others, I don’t go looking for ideas on other kids boutiques. I literally have tunnel vision and create my own lane and focus there. There are days when I feel like I’m not as productive, but I overcome that by staying consistent. I consistently post, send out blast emails, and stay active on social media. The hardest thing would be to give up and I’ve come to far to do that.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take my best friend to Atlanta. I love the vibes there and that’s also a place I want to do more business in. I would take her to a nice brunch spot called Toast on Lennox and we would have bottomless mimosas. We would most definitely have to hit the malls and do some shopping before later finding a nice hookah lounge with good music and vibes.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My 3 year old daughter, Tori has become the face of my brand. She looks forward on a daily to getting dressed up in The Kloset’s clothes, taking pictures and modeling for me. Tori has brought many new customers to my boutique with her one of a kind personality. She really deserves all the credit for all her hard work and cuteness she brings to The Kloset.
