We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Blanchard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Originally, I am from Southern California. Although, I lived over ten years in Portland, Oregon prior to relocating to Texas. When I consider my background and upbringing and how that impacted who I am today, I would largely credit my father. Growing up in Southern California, I saw a lot of my friends parents purchasing cars or trips for them and other expensive items that I was not just given. That’s not to say that I wasn’t taken care of but it was important to my dad to instill a good work ethic in us so anything extra, we had to work and save for it. I want to say I was jealous of friends at the time but in the long run, I very much appreciate it because I believe that my work ethic has benefited me in terms of starting and running my own business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
This was definitely a very difficult journey. I knew I wanted to be in the beauty industry at a young age but actually ended up in the dental industry for nearly a decade. It wasn’t until I was in Portland that I finally made it to beauty school. I went to the Aveda Institute Portland which in Oregon is a 2300 hour program so I was there for a long time. I worked in a few salons out of school which I quickly realized was not for me. During that time I had begun freelancing with several makeup lines and doing test photoshoots with photographers which is how I learned that I really preferred makeup and styling hair. I was modeling for a bridal styled shoot where I met the owner of a popular bridal team in Portland and ended up working with her for a few years. It was an interesting experience. I learned a lot about bridal beauty and also about how I did and didn’t want to handle my business going forward. Ultimately, I left the team because I wanted to be more hands on with my clients and had different ideas of how I wanted the clients experience to be. So I started my own company which was going great until the pandemic hit and everything shut down. It was so difficult seeing everything you have worked so hard for go down due to something you have no control over. My husband and I relocated to Texas in October 2020 as his company offered him a promotion here. Restarting my business has been a challenge but Texas has been good to me and I am so grateful for the progress my business has made since I have been here. There are a lot of really amazing artists and bridal beauty teams here. I think for me, I prefer to keep my business on the more boutique-y side so I have more time to connect with my brides. I really like to take my time with my brides and bridal party, this is how I put out my best work. I have had many brides comment that I am so calming for them on a day when they’re feeling nervous and I love that I can be that person for them.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh my gosh, I have had so much support through this journey that it would be difficult to recognize only one person! Definitely my dad. Going back to the last question, ultimately I think the work ethic he helped me establish has been crucial to starting and running my own business. I also had some really amazing mentors back in Portland that were so kind to me as I started out. I learned so much from them. Not only did I learn so much about bridal beauty from them but also how to be a great wedding vendor. There is so much more to it than the makeup and hair service.
