We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Hatchett Stover and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I recognize that clinicians of color are underrepresented in Texas, and in the United States. My goal was to serve and provide culturally responsive care to individuals and communities of color to mitigate this disproportionality. Additionally, I want to be a role model for other individuals, specifically, Black women, who would like to brave this world of entrepreneurship.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My creative title and role is an Executive Curator of Clinical Wellness and Creative Intelligence. In my roles I focus on wellness from a clinical lens but incorporate creativity in every way possible.

I currently work as a professional counselor, licensed in the state of Texas. My clientele includes tweens and adolescents, young adults, couples, and older adults. I have 17 years of experience in education, beginning as a teacher and then as a school counselor. I have also worked as a district Mental Health facilitator and it was in this role that I wrote my first children’s book, David and Ms. Marvelle’s 3rd Grade Superheroes, which focuses on a variety of developmental challenges including navigating mental health as a 3rd grader.

In addition, I started a nonprofit called Untriggered, which was initially founded to provide mental health support to underserved and never-served communities. From this idea birthed the creation of my podcast, The Untriggered Experience. The purpose of the podcast is to 1) center the Black experience by sharing “our” narratives and stories of strength, triumph, and excellence, 2) design and promote a safe space for us to bring relevant stories/issues regarding mental health to the table, 3) destigmatize mental health in the Black community and encourage opportunity for wellness/healing, and 4) create meaningful dialogue to educate and inform relevant professional, cultural, and ethnic communities. It is currently available on Spotify and iHeart Radio.

Recently, I have added registered yoga teacher (RYT-200) to my professional identities. I work with clients to practice wellness and mindfulness to regulate the mind and body.

In December of 2023, I will also have the privilege of adding PhD to my list of credentials and identities.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friends and I love a good brunch! Depending on where they are from I would take them to the Breakfast Klub, as I feel that is definitely a Houston staple. I also love Hearsay on the Green. So brunch may be a 2-3 day activity. I love the ambiance near the heights as well as the Woodlands. Since I love yoga, there may be a self-care day, similar to Soul Sundays from Insecure. I would also include a spa day, and book a few services at Dranny’s Dream Spa and Skin pHirst. Lastly, we would visit Fallbrook Church for a little Jesus before she leaves.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this shoutout to my husband, Cedric Stover, my best friend and biggest supporter! I also credit my sister circle, Camille Hall, Candice Clark, Chastidy Ervins, and Dr. Jennifer Bourgeois. I would not be the professional I am without my circle of influence (COI), Bianca Smith, Cicelia Como, and Warren B. Wright. They uplift me and hold me accountable, as this work can be intense. I also thank Shandelynn Hillard for the recommendation!
