We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Becerra and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maria, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I truly believe that one of the most important factors behind my success has been good ethics. All clients inquiries begin with a questionnaire that they need to fill out in order for me to fully understand what kind of event they need. I like to stablish a friendly vibe with all my potential clients and in a matter of a few minutes I know exactly how I can be of service to them. I like to make them feel welcomed and that their event is important to me as it is for them. I like to allow enough time to get to know every client, this allows me to better serve them and make their vision a reality. If I feel I can refer one of my trusted vendors, I am happy to share that information with them. I truly believe that there is enough room for all of us in this industry and we all are each others support. Even though, it all started as a hobby and for my love of all things pretty, I never thought I would make a business out of something that makes my heart happy. I love seeing all the components coming together to create one of a kind event.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Dulcemar Creations is your one stop party planning, event décor, and party rental shop to create the celebration of your dreams. With a home based showroom and years of experience I will help you plan a successful event from beginning to end. I have style events from baby gender reveals, baby showers, birthday parties, quinceaneras, sweet sixteen, and weddings. No budget is the same, and I take pride in helping my clients achieve one of a kind event with their budget in mind. With my attention to details, you are guaranteed to have an unforgettable event. Even though themed parties are growing in popularity, most rental companies offer basic party supplies or specialty décor, forcing the client to rent from multiple companies (both with rental minimums and delivery charges), or purchase expensive items for one-time use. We strive to be a one-stop event design shop that provides everything someone will need to host an unforgettable, one-of-a-kind party at an affordable price. I am proud to say that Dulcemar Creations is perfect for any occasion and any budget. All of our party packages are passionately curated with an emphasis on creativity and originality. This means clients don’t have to do the handpicking, internet searching, renting from multiple companies, or driving around looking for the perfect combination of items. Simply put, our services are designed to save you time and money! One of my biggest accomplishments has been to be able to invest in classes related to my trade. Education is very important and learning from the best in this industry has allow me to build different skills to offer one of a kind event décor and planning service shop.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Here in California, I will definitely go to a beach, drive thru iconic places, and discover small shops to support small businesses during these hard times.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My grandparents have been my greatest mentors in life. They taught me to work hard, always give my best, and to be thankful. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for my parents who brought me to California at the age of 11. With the lack of opportunities at an early age I learned that I had to work harder than others to be able to obtain an education. As soon as I graduated high school, I decided to go straight to college. I obtained my associates degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, Business Management, and Bookkeeping. I transferred to Cal State Bakersfield to study Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance. I was always the type of person taking extra curricular classes just for fun and everything that I have learned has shaped me into the person that I am today. My parents were always very supportive of my educational goals and eagerness to learn more. My family of three kids and husband deserve all the credit in the world too . Very often they go to sleep without me because I have to stay up late to finish all my desserts and décor. The day of the event can be challenging as my kids are two, six, and seven years old. If it wasn’t for the support of my husband, I wouldn’t be able to do what I love. Very often he helps me load the vehicle and transport all the props and décor to the events.
