We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Tijerina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matt, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After spending years working as a project manager, I knew it was time to go out on my own. Working in residential construction I saw a lot of dishonesty and lack of communication firsthand. I wanted to create a company where honesty, communication, and the customer is valued. This lead me to start Maven Painting in July of 2020.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Maven Painting is a business that is being built upon systems. This allows us to keep a high quality of service on all of our projects. When we show up to paint we aren’t guessing at the best way to tackle your project. We have a sheet that tells our crews exactly how to approach each project we do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to eat. Some of my favorite restaurants in the Houston area are Kirans, Ramble Creek, Velvet Taco, and Local Table. I really love to be in the Heights. It’s such a unique and fun area of town to hang out in. There are a lot of small businesses and plenty of nice walking areas.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shout-out to a friend of mine, Brian Reis. I met him in a painting business FB group. He started his business a few years before me and was willing to guide and help me in every way possible. He gave me documents that he created and shared resources with me. If not for his help, I would not have grown as quickly as I have.
