We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Aguirre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christopher, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process was simple, I wanted to provide a service that was equal or greater to most shops in my area. I have been turning wrenches for nearly 20 years now and wanted to put that to good use. I have seen my own family being treated dishonestly at some shops. I told myself, I can do so much better on my own and provide a far superior service to people for a fair and decent cost.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been turning wrenches for 20 years now, always working at a shop, knowing that there had to be a way to provide the same service for people without the hassle of a conventional shop. Deciding to take the step to become a mobile mechanic was easy, I had the tools, I have the drive, all that was needed was the push. Once I got the push that was needed, the rest just fell into place. I now have customers all over the city and word of mouth is my biggest advertisement. Auto/Diesel Works is something I can call my own and can involve my own family, when the time is right.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is actually a fun question being that it just happened. I have family that flew in from Guam, and some of them have never been to the “lower” 48. My itinerary for them, show them the things that I take for granted as a person that was born and raised in Houston, TX. 1) show them the greatest skyline in the USA. The Houston skyline is gorgeous, even more so when lit up at night.
2) show them the diversity in the city, we have many different types of food, stores, museums, etc. Best of everything.
3) lakes galore!! Take them to one of the many lakes in and around Houston.
4) we are just a few hours drive to either, San Antonio, Austin, Killeen, and Galveston. Texas is an amazing place to be.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my own family. June, my wife helped set me on the right path and pushed me to be my own boss. Without her and my kids I wouldn’t have had the push to take that step forward in pursuing my own venture. Secondly, my parents, they made sure they encouraged me to do better. My mom and dad always had my back. Coming from a minority family showed me what it was to work for what we wanted. My parents taught me work ethic, not by showing me examples, instead, leading by example.
Lastly, my siblings, they always made sure to encourage me. They were my biggest cheering section and continue to be the ones that promote me more than anyone else.
Needless to say I have an amazing family. Not just the ones mentioned either, I have an extended family that showed me what loyalty is when they travelled half way across the world to spend time with us.
My entire family is my greatest encouragement, immediate and extended. My entire family deserves some recognition in my story.
