We had the good fortune of connecting with 34K and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi 34K, why did you pursue a creative career?
I am pursing an artistic career because it is a way for me to express myself in ways that I otherwise would not be able to. I am normally more reserved and quiet, and I tend to spend a lot time thinking instead of talking. Music allows me to say the things that I want to say in the way that I want to say them. I also hope that my creativity and art can relate to other people and make them feel good. I believe that music can heal the soul and speak to people of different backgrounds. Music has the power to bring people together, and my goal as an artist is to provide my contribution to that cause.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a singer, songwriter, and producer. Elements of R&B/Soul, Pop, and Rock genres can be heard in my original songs . One unique thing about myself as an artist is that I am essentially a one woman band! I write, perform, produce, and mix all of my original songs. My first instrument was the acoustic guitar. I became interested in learning guitar after being obsessed with the Guitar Hero franchise. For about 3 years after picking up the guitar, I only learned and played cover songs. At age 15, I started writing my own songs and producing. Over the years I have been working at my craft and am now performing live, collaborating with other artists, and producing my own material. My journey to where I am now was very challenging. Although I have enjoyed every moment of my experience, there were many times where I felt that I was not good enough or that I would never even be able to produce a song from start to finish. I overcame these challenges by keeping people around me that were honest and provided their support. I also opened myself up to learning as much as I could so I could expose myself to things that I essentially wanted to improve upon and incorporate in my own material. Through my experience, I have learned to stay true to myself and never let my career become something that I dread doing. I always think back to why I love music and I have made a promise to myself to not let the circumstances of what may happen in my career cause myself to not enjoy music and be creative. I want the world to know that I love making music for the sake of making music! I also want the world to know that I want to be known for making music that make people feel good.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area, one the of the first places I would take him/her to eat would be The Turkey Leg Hut. I absolutely love their food and I feel that would be a must. I would then take my friend to The Galleria. I feel like if you visit the Houston Area, then it is imperative that you experience this incredible mall as well as the area of town where The Galleria is located. The final place that I would take my friend would be the graffiti walls that are located in downtown Houston. I think the artwork is beautiful and also a must see!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to personally give a shoutout to my parents because they have supported me through my journey as an artist. They have always had my best interest, and I wouldn’t be where I am now without their support!
