Meet Abel Huerta | Police Officer/ Owner Jump Monkey’s Party Rental

We had the good fortune of connecting with Abel Huerta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Abel, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
To stop yelling at my children from the sidelines during their soccer games. I encouraged them, motivated them, but would also yell at them when they made mistakes or when they weren’t giving 100%. I yelled for years and didn’t realize I was making it worse for them on the field and at home also. One day my son played horrible and I yelled and got on him really bad that when we got home he walked away from the house to a wooded area behind our house and I couldn’t find him and I got really concerned. I looked for him and found him sitting up against a tree and he was crying, I felt horrible. We talked and he expressed how my yelling made him feel so I promised I would never do it again and so I stopped and never yelled again. It was extremely difficult to keep my mouth shut on the sidelines but I kept my promise. My son was about 10 years old at that time.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of a small party rental business, Jump Monkey’s Party Rental. I have been in this business on and off for about 5 years now. What sets us apart from our competitors is our commitment to customer service, clean inflatables, and fair and reasonable prices. I am most excited about retirement from the police force soon and focusing on my business full time. Some of my challenges have been to learn how to not get into debt running this business and instead making a little profit. it’s very easy and tempting to want to buy a bunch of inventory because you think that the more inventory you have the more money you will make but that’s not the case. It’s a slow process and buying only what is needed is the best way that it has worked for me. I want the world to know that any one can become successful if you want it bad enough and you pour your heart and soul into something you like, every single human is capable, if I can do it anybody can do it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friends to a Houston Cougars Men’s basketball game, I am a huge fan, I would take them to downtown Houston to have a few drinks and finally I would take them to Ninfa’s Mexican Restaurant on Navigation Street to have some of the best fajitas in Houston.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have to say my parents. They migrated to this country in the 70’s to give my siblings and I a better life. I was taught to work hard and to be a good person and to care about people.
