We had the good fortune of connecting with Abraham Pena and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abraham, how does your business help the community?
Abe’s fitty foods is an aspiring meal company with a mission to introduce healthy lifestyles to individuals wanting to become the best version of themselves.! the members of our company; Abe, Gus, & Rudy have been through their fair trails of adversity, with each of them losing 100 pounds.! We also strive to inspire that anybody can achieve weight loss goals as long as you’re willing to put in the work in both nutrition and exercise!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets Abe’s Fitty foods apart from others is that we are a living-breathing testimony of our food. Fitness is one of the most important things to having self-care so we push to set an example that one has to commit to both health & fitness 100%

Getting to where we are today wasn’t an easy road traveled however.. Abe founded the company in 2014, as a way to help our ailing mother with her food intake. She was diabetic so she had a specific meal plan that he would cook for her. To his surprise she enjoyed the food, and encouraged him to start the business. He then started to pursue the business but it got slow, so he decided to put it on hold and started working another job.
The following year in 2015 our mom passed away.. In the midst of depression he decided to get back in the kitchen, except this time with Rudy. For about the next year, it picked up especially with the helping hand. In November 2016 we hit yet another bump in the road. The house we grew up in was being sold from underneath us. We were left homeless without a clue where to go. Luckily we have a close family friend/neighbor that let us crash at his place until we were able to got back on our feet. (Thanks Paul!)
That Following month we were able to find a home more centrally located in Houston. Abe and Rudy started grinding in the kitchen. Things started picking up and we were able to come up with funds for a new vehicle in the spring. Around that same time Gus came into the equation and implemented a delivery system for our customers. Since then, business has been booming and haven’t looked back since.

When our mom passed away she made us keep a promise that we’d always look out for each other and stick by one another. Sometimes it takes a team to accomplish the goals that propel oneself into another level, and there’s no better support system than family. Tough times never last; tough people do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of our fav things to do is workout, particularly weight training. We’d have a nice workout session at Texas Elite then hit a well deserved post-workout meal at Pluckers, but if we want to keep it light we’d hit up Pho-Saigon in midtown. One of Rudy’s hobbies is art, and he’d hit up any local art supply store. As for Gus, he loves to cycle when he has the time. so we’d take a nice ride around midtown/downtown and end the ride at The Almighty Moontower-Inn for a Cheech burger & a pitcher of beer. On the rare times Abe has free schedule, he’d spend some time at Total Nutrition midtown and chop it up with the owner Drew.(he also happens to be a longtime supporting customer). He’d then let loose by going to a local brewery such as St. Arnold and catch a vibe, and maybe catch an Astros game.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, we’d like to dedicate this opportunity to our mom/angel Lourdres!. Without her, there defiantly is no us! Her love for us was never in doubt, so we keep striving to becoming the hardest working meal prep company to honor her memory.. love you mom forever & always! <3
We’d also like to give a shoutout to all the members of ‘Texas Elite Fitness! Eric & Eder brought us in with open arms! As fitness is one of the most important things of self-care; its been such an incredible experience being family with not only the strongest, but most genuine people we’ve ever met!

Lastly, we’d like to thank our ‘Fitty customers! without you’ll we’d never have the fuel to run this well oiled machine! building ever-lasting relationships with some of our patrons and seeing them crush their goals helps us realize that our business is more than just making ‘meal preps!
