We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Carriles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have been an artist since the day I first held a crayon. Art is something that has always brought me lots of joy and fulfillment. As I grew up I began taking an interest in computers and more technical subjects which I then began to combine with my creative interests. This is how I became a 3D animator and visual effects artist. As my interest in computers started to outweigh my interest in conventional art I transitioned into design and development for web and mobile and have been pursuing web design and creative technology ever since. Even though my current day-to-day work may seem like the furthest thing from being an artist, its core is deeply rooted in the foundations of art and design.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
ACStudiosX was originally founded on the basis of wanting to combine new and emerging technologies with art and design to create unique products and services. Today ACX focuses on creating interactive videos through two similar but distinct services: Interactive Video Demos (IVD) and Interactive Marketing (IM).

IVDs serve as a fully loaded interactive training and onboarding software that allows users to go at their own pace, jump around to different sections, and can search for anything they need. It’s like the ultimate digital encyclopedia for your business.

IMs are meant for users to interact with products being marketed to them. Imagine watching a clothing commercial and being able to click on the runner’s shoes or maybe a bystanderd’s hat at any moment during the ad and being taken to the webpage for that exact product. That’s the kind of thing IMs can do.

We take pride in offering digital solutions that are made with the mind of a developer and the heart of an artist to bring a truly unique interactive experience.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston is enormous! There are so many things to see, do, and eat. Some of my favorite things include the museum district, walking around downtown through Discovery Green, and Memorial Park. I would also recommend making the trek up north to Lake Conroe during the summertime and visiting the Sam Houston National Forest.

Houston is particularly great for foodies. You can find diverse authentic food anywhere you go.

It also wouldn’t be a complete visit without going to the NASA Johnson Space Center.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe everything to my parents. I would not be where I am if it weren’t for the love, support, and opportunities they have given me my entire life. Both my mom and my dad have always supported me in all my endeavors and I cannot imagine where I’d be without them. I also want to shout out my two high school 3D animation teachers, Mr. Olson and Mr. Yip Choy. They taught me the fundamentals of animation that set me up for success and allowed me to see and solve problems in a completely new way. I will never forget what Mr. Olson said on the first day of class: “After this course, you will never see the world the same way again”. He was right.
