We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Rosas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, why did you pursue a creative career?
It’s something I think I was born to do. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else to earn a living nowadays. I had many “regular” jobs before I went to art school… I was a cable guy, dishwasher, door-to-door salesman, etc. but sometime around 2006, I decided I was going to finish my degree and “get paid to be creative” for the rest of my life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I began my “professional career” working for a big medical company. I did that for about 4 years, then it was time to move on to freelancing. At the same time, my daughter Mia was born, which gave me even more drive to get the work flowing. I quit my job with no money in the bank and no plan really.. I just knew I’d find my own customers eventually. I started learning to build websites and eventually made several connections / business relationships that are still growing new branches. I got a gig with Joe at Bull Shirts in Houston. He hooked me up with iHeart radio station, 94.5 The Buzz where I worked with the Rod Ryan Show for a couple years running their online store and selling merch for charity. That was a fun job! Around that time, I started reaching out to my favorite bands and asking if they could use my help on the web. I got ahold of Ben Perlstein, who managed The Replacements & Tommy Stinson at the time. Life changed after that phone call. Not only did he say yes to having me work for him and his peeps, he gave me free concert tickets! Thanks Ben. Nowadays, half of my work-load is related to The Replacements somehow and I feel fortunate to be their web guy. I told Tommy recently it’s like working for The Beatles or Stones, but better!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend were visiting, I’d probably show them around The Heights neighborhood. There’s skateparks nearby & some bike trails that run into downtown. As for restaurants, Ka Sushi is awesome and Hughies is a good spot for Vietnamese food & craft beers. Tepatitlan is my fav mexican restaurant & Star Pizza is another place I have always enjoyed. Knowing my friends, we’d probably just end up at my house most of the time partying in my garage like the good ol’ days!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Can I include multiple shout-outs here?! These are some companies/individuals that feed me work and keep me busy: • Tommy Stinson • The Replacements • Get Hip Recordings • Black & Blue Artist Management • Bisong Art Gallery • Bull Shirts • Live Line Safety • KCS Printing • Geo-Grafx • Boys & Girls Club I also want to say big thanks to Willie Dunivan and his sons, Derek & Evan. Also Mike McWilliams & Allan Nelson. I absorbed a lot by watching those guys and their attitude towards performing and being creative. It’s helped me craft my art & remain confident in my work, especially within the entertainment/music world. Thanks to Ofer Molad for giving me a salary job at his company at a time when I had no experience. I want to also include Shannon & Mia. My world revolves around the three of us living life together. I wouldn’t want it any other way!
