Meet Alexandra Mendez | Owner and founder of AKMDazzlingEvents

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Mendez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandra, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
All my life, My family has always been big on celebrating birthdays. We’re a pretty big Hispanic family who likes to party and take pictures. So as a little girl my mom and aunt would always decorate all of our parties, but then my aunt started to learn how to do balloon garlands and later showed me. She would do all of our balloon garlands for all of our parties and she later decided to create her own business named Tyara Creations. About a year later after seeing her work. I was pushed to start learning from her and start my own business as well. In October of 2021 I finally took the risk and invested in my business. First starting with a photo booth and a white bounce house only. I started to take some bookings and now have expanded to shimmer walls, flower walls, balloon garlands, marquee numbers and much more. I love creating and planning my customer’s events from start to finish and making their visions come to life.

AKMDazzlingEvents offers the best prices in Houston, with the best quality services. We like to focus on bringing your party visions to life without breaking the bank. Coming from a family who loves to celebrate, I believe that birthdays, Graduation, Weddings and any other events should be celebrated and photographed to create memories. So with all great pictures there should be a great setup where pictures can be taken, but planning a party can be stressful. So, it’s the reason why we like to take on that burden and plan your party from start to finish so that our customers can enjoy their parties. We focus on such small details to make sure your party is perfect. Where we are now it has not been easy, it takes time for a company to grow. When I opened in October of 2021 I was fortunate to have a few bookings in October, but when it came to the rest of the year it was really slow for us. I could have easily given up and been discourage to not continue, but I didn’t. I kept promoting and around January I started to get more bookings for 2022 and now were booked and busy more than ever. The lessons I’ve learned in this journey is to never give up and to keep pushing towards your dream. No one said it would be easy and a lot of work and dedication has to go into your small business, but when you love what you do It’s not work.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?My family has been my biggest support. My mom (Carla Agreda) and dad (Fredi Mendez ) who have supported me from the very start

My brother (Carlos Agreda), My sister (Alma Perez), Brother -in law (William Perez) and my boyfriend (Anthony Garcia) who’s my #1 supporter and always by my side with all my crazy ideas.

Having a small business means you work 24/7 and some people as the owner and founder of a small business run everything by themselves, but not me. Working in the party decorating business is not easy. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and long weekend hours, but when I need help none of these people have ever said no to me.

Just as much as they are my support mentally. They are also my dazzling small team although they might not know it, but my team is the best and I wouldn’t be growing without them.

Also a big shoutout to Demi Cruz from Demi Cruz Studio who opened her doors to me and made me her official in house vendor for all of her events from day one.
