We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well once I was laid off due to covid-19, I knew I had to do something in order to make a stream of income because my boss said she didn’t know when we would be able to be back to work, and encouraged us to apply for unemployment. During the Covid shutdown, I watched many videos on business, and how other women my age became very successful entrepreneurs in the beauty industry on their own. After praying about it, I wrote down my vision and a one year plan to execute. Once the state of Texas opened back up, I found and leased my first two-room suite, and in a matter of 2 weeks I was in business!
What should our readers know about your business?
Royal Opulence Beauty Bar, Is a beauty studio specializing in Brow Artistry, and Skin Care Treatments. What sets us apart from other beauty bars is that we cater to the ethnic community including Hispanics, African Americans, Asians, Chinese, Latinos, etc. Everyone who comes in for a Brow service, gets beautiful brows that are tailored to frame their face. Everyone who comes in for a skincare treatment, receives a relaxing arm, face, & neck massage, and to top it off, they leave with a specialized skin care regimen + products to help maintain their glowing skin afterwards.
.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to eat crawfish & crab legs, because you can’t come to the south and not indulge in good cajun food! I would also take them to the “breakfast klub” for chicken and waffles! As far as to hang out, the galleria mall ofcouse, followed by my favorite museuem of fine arts, followed by a little “top golf” that night for dinks and fun!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would definitely have acknowledge my mom for all of her love, support, and consistent encouragement to me since I began my business. She constantly tells me not be led by fear, but to allow God to direct my business plans, and decisions. She constantly tells me not to second guess myself, or overthink everything, but to study, be consistent, be open to feedback (good & bad), and success will come.
