We had the good fortune of connecting with Alison Francis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alison, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Creativity has been a major part of my life. Growing up my parents really created an environment where my creative interests could flourish. I’ve was really involved with dancing, art, and acting especially. I got into cosplay in July of 2021 and fell in love with the art after my first competition. I’ve been pursuing various different avenues related to cosplay since.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a craftsmanship based cosplayer who has been cosplaying since August of 2021. I make majority of my costumes and I pride myself on the details and surprises I add into each of them. Cosplay requires a lot of trial and error as we’re always finding new ways to make characters come to life. I’ve had to teach myself a lot of new skills and I especially enjoy learning new things from my fellow cosplayers. I try to incorporate new ideas/skills into each cosplay I make as it pushes me to improve and test my abilities.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite spots include the Houston Museum of Natural Science (especially the gem hall and the butterfly exhibits), Cidercade, the Houston Zoo, and Herman Park. Getting some sort of Asian food or Tex-Mex and hitting up a fun bar or brewery for drinks, karaoke, or a burlesque show would be a must as well. Depending on who I’m with I also like to go out two stepping at country western bars! And if there is a convention or the Renaissance Festival going on at the time you know we’ll be attending.

Houston always has some sort of fun market or event going on that keeps things fresh and new! I love going out and spending time with friends and I feel like there’s always something to keep us busy.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents for always supporting me, The Legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask for getting me into cosplay, and the amazing friends I’ve met through cosplay who continue to support me in my endeavors.
