We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Bette and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyssa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
On the personal side of it, I wanted to create a platform where I could openly speak about my Mental Health and inspire others to do the same. My intention was to curate a safe space where people could purchase jewelry & accessories that advocated for something they could relate to.
As for the business side of things, I always knew I wanted to be self employed. I knew I loved fashion, marketing, photography. All the things I loved most I was able to bring to life when launching my business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is called Mindfull Mode Boutique and it is an e-commerce boutique. We sell modern jewelry and accessories which advocate and raise money for mental health. I created this brand so I could have a platform that normalized mental health while making it fashionable.
I wanted there to be more discussion and awareness around mental health to help elminate the stigma. I myself have suffered from mental illness my whole life so creating a brand that represented mental health was very important to me.
A lot of the items I sell say things like ‘Mental Health Matters’, ‘Anxious but Cute’, ‘Blessed but a lil Depressed’, etc. Phrases that encompass mental illness while empowering people who struggle with it.
I have found that since launching the brand it has circulated so much discussion about mental health. Even the people who don’t purchase items will still approach me at markets or message me via social media opening up about their struggles with mental health.
I’m trying to normalize transparency in mental health and life in general. I also created a blog around the same time I launched Mindfull Mode. I blog openly about my own mental health disorders and the daily life struggles that come with being mentally ill.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly I am so blessed with a supportive circle of people who pushed, encouraged & cheered me on the entire time. From the original idea, to creating, launching & expanding I have been spoiled with support from the ones I love most & my new customers. I have never recieved so much love & support as I did when I launched this business and every moment since. I think people love a good cause so the fact that this brand stands for and raises money for Mental Health, it definitely caught a lot of attention.
