We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Ferranti and Kaiti Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyssa & Kaiti, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We started our business as two stay-at-home mom friends looking for a creative outlet and a way to make some extra money. We never dreamed we would learn some of the things we have in this business. One skill we learned early on was sewing, which came in handy when COVID hit. We were able to sew cloth masks for our community and donate masks to local hospitals, doctor’s offices, schools, etc. It was amazing to see how our little “side hustle” could impact so many people in such a positive way. Our goal shifted from just “making a little extra money” to creatively dabbling in other skill sets. We realized our business could impact others in a much bigger way! It’s amazing seeing customers in a custom tee, putting their newborns in one of our bows for newborn photos, or seeing a family on vacation in matching family shirts. We love to celebrate our customer’s life moments!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
This business has not always been easy. In fact, there have been many times we have wanted to throw in the towel and call it quits. Some years are booming with business and some are slow. As two moms of little ones, it’s not always easy finding time to work, but we always find the time and try to create new products and bring fresh ideas into the mix. We overcome challenges together and often take breaks when we need to. We try not to push ourselves too hard, and our customers have always supported us through it all. Our business is a revolving door of new ideas. We know our customers want diversity, and sometimes that makes it difficult when adding new products to our website. We have learned to listen to customers, friends, and family and use their feedback to grow and transform. What sets us apart is the heart we put into every single product we create. We are truly a two woman team so when someone supports us, they are supporting two families.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend was coming in town during Astros season, we would highly suggest watching a game at Minute Maid Park! Minute Maid is in close proximity to some really awesome bars and restaurants in EaDo such as 8th Wonder, Truck Yard, Frost Town Brewing, or Pitch 25, to name a few. There are some great graffiti walls around there to snap a fun picture next to!
Houston is known for some amazing shopping! We suggest MKT, Rice Village, or 19th Street in The Heights.
A must-do for a visitor is walking the Buffalo Bayou at sunset. Not only is it gorgeous but you can also check out the bats!
We all know how hot Houston is, so we would take our friends to El Segundo Swim Club which is amazing(and adults only)! Finish a fun pool day with dinner at The Original Ninfa’s across the street (BEST Mexican food in our opinion)!
Add the Houston Zoo and Houston Aquarium to your list, especially if a friend is traveling with her family or little ones! Discovery Green and Hermann Park are also great outdoor spots.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to shoutout our INCREDIBLE customers! Their support and loyalty is what truly motivates and ignites a fire in us to diversify our brand and challenge us creatively. Seeing families and little ones in our products makes us realize we are a part of core memories for our customers and for that, we are so appreciative! Thank you for believing in us and our small shop!
We also want to thank our kids and husbands! Our kids are huge motivators and fuel us with design ideas, and not to mention, make the cutest little models for our company. To our super supportive husbands, thank you both for dealing with us and our crazy ideas, for letting our products, machines, t-shirts, bows, market boxes, and fabric take over our houses. We love you and are so thankful to have you by our sides!
