We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alyssa, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
In the beginning of my career I had an unbalanced work life. I’d work all day and through the night with no regard to my health. But, I was passionate about my craft. There’s no better feeling than seeing all your work pay off. That’s exactly what I was witnessing, my work paying off. I’d respond to inquiries as soon as possible and I’d bring work home with me. It started to have negative effects with my family and I fell behind in self care. I wouldn’t feel like me. Eventually, I realized I’m doing all this work and not able to enjoy it because I don’t have the time. I learned that I need to prioritize myself because I’m the business, if I’m not feeling well it shows in my work and I love what I do. Now, I make sure to take at least one off day. I have set in place hours of operations, I don’t respond to inquiries outside of my working hours. I’m able to spend more time with my family and enjoy it. I still love my work now more than ever and I’ve grown even more. Many more opportunities have opened for me, I’m so glad that I prioritized myself being a business owner.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Nail Technician, I specialize in acrylic enhancements and what sets me apart from others, is the experience you get when you book with me. I offer snacks, acrylic toes, pedicures, specialized pedicures, affordable prices, my retention is great and I take pride in my nail art. I am most excited about everything that I have yet to achieve and being able to provide my clients with a more memorable experience going forward. I got to where I am today with a great support system and a lot of hard work and long hours. It wasn’t easy, I overcame the challenges by focusing on what I could gain and believing in myself and what I’m doing. I’ve learned to prioritize myself sometimes, be patient, and work through burnout. I want the world to know that they’re not ready for everything I plan to bring to this industry. My brand is me. I want to flourish in ways I never thought possible. My story isn’t over yet i’m just beginning.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take them to ride paddle boats at Hermann Park and to eat Birria tacos at Doña Lettis. We’d hang out at the hotel and then just go sight see. I love looking and visiting exciting places. Maybe, we’d visit a few different food trucks to try new things.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d have to give credit to my high school cosmetology teacher, Mrs.Meadows. She has supported me from the beginning. I showed interest in nails and really that’s all i wanted to do. She convinced me to join an organization called Skills USA, it’s a leadership program that hosts competitions. I was really interested in competing in the nail care category. She helped prepare me for it. When I went to tutorials she’d have me practice nail art. It really fueled my passion I looked forward to going to tutorials and practicing. She answered all my questions when I asked them and I always emailed her more outside of class. I really appreciate how she pushed me to do better because she knew I could do great things. At the time I didn’t realize it but I wouldn’t be where I am without her love and support.
