We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssia Aguilar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyssia, how do you think about risk?
Being an entrepreneur you automatically adapt to taking risks. I’ve learned more about the right type of risks to take and how to utilize them to my businesses advantage. I believe that you must take risks which means going outside of your comfort zone in order to push yourself to grow. You may not always get a lead or a “win” from your risk taking BUT you will become more comfortable taking risks and be more willing to just go for it. I know that I have taken many risks in my career and some have lead to conversations I never thought could happen. Another risk I take is connecting with people I don’t know- I love to introduce myself and send a message through social, emails, and even in person. It allows me to put myself out there in a comfortable way, within my own skin and build a new network of people and connections around me. This has led to some incredible opportunities and incredible people loving my work and help amplify my story and talents.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The Lofty Mom was supposed to be just another “mom blog”, but quickly turned into an outlet on social media to use the name and associate my journey of motherhood and art through photos and community outreach. This landed me multiple opportunities after connecting with The Houston Latina Bloggers and their community. I was quickly asked to do multiple designs and logos and saw the potential in what I could do with my art. One important project that I continue to do and share about is my work with the Non-Profit, Sepsis Alliance. After my son passed away in 2017 I started to dedicate time and art towards Sepsis Awareness efforts. Excited to also share that this year in the state of Texas we have gotten recognition of Sepsis Awareness month for September! Hinired to be part of this movement and help their efforts in awareness and help save lives.
In other design aspects I started to then venture out and had the opportunity to help create and design a baby floater in two style ways for a baby company, and helped work on branding design for a skin care product line. These then opened my mind to new ideas and skill sets of how my art and design eye could really be apart of more. I was then scouted out by the biggest fast fashion brand, SHEIN. I was asked to design a capsule collection under the Lofty Mom brand and was able to create amazing pieces and collaborate with other companies to design for SHEIN. My daughter even launched her own kids collection with her art and designs- one of my proudest moments.
Through the years my brand has been seen and highlighted by many supporters such as Randi Zuckerberg, Eva Longoria, The Houston Texans, and many more. As a Latina who is self taught, and works solely on organic opportunities and word of mouth – having my work being valued and seen is so powerful and impactful for me. I have had huge hurdles finding my audience and building rapport with brands and organizations but continue to reach out and never give up on trying to build intentional trust. I value my brand and hope that others will see my integrity behind the work, and see how I share my culture, passions and stories through my work.
There will always be days where I may have self doubt and compare myself to others, but I keep my head up and remember that two little girls are watching me. Those are the two little girls that matter the most and it’s because of them that I work so hard and aim to be successful as a creative. I want them to one day look back and see that their mom never gave up. I have learned to trust God always through the good and the bad, and believe in myself more and more everyday. The Lofty Mom is here to stay and will always be looking for my next avenue to grow and evolve in. Art is just the beginning and im excited to keep creating and wee what new things will come!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is so full of life that there is literally something for anyone! Shopping, sporting events, outdoor adventures and so much more.
One of my favorite spots to eat and enjoy drinks is Verde Garden. Went for my birthday this year and had a great time!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to thank and recognize my Aunt who from day one always believed in me and gave me the confidence to believe in myself and chase my dreams. It is because of her that I have focus, drive, and passion fueling my every move. Her support has always come with no expectation of a “payback”-its genuinely to see me succeed and be the best mom that I can be to my daughters. To that I hope one day I can give her everything she deserves. Love you Tia Anna!
I would also like to thank my two daughters who have changed my life, and have given me the best title there is, mom. I have become a better woman because of them and have learned the true meaning of sacrifice and love. I work hard for them and hope to inspire them one day to be better women for themselves and to always go for their dreams. I love you both so much and appreciate your dedication and understanding as we work together to make our dreams come true.
Lastly I would like to thank my boyfriend, who gives me my mental escape from it all. Allowing me to truly be myself and who gives me space to vent, rest and enjoy the little things in life. Thank you babe for filling my cup when I need it- and showing me I can trust again. Having you in our corner means the most and I am truly grateful for you.
