We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyxandra Pendley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyxandra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I actually have two businesses: RedFoxResin; A “Pendley” Brand (is my epoxy resin art business) and The Fox’s Den Cleaning Services.
Initially, my main thought process behind starting my own business was “I’ve got to make some money during this pandemic”. My job at the time had shut down for months and I was homeschooling my children so I needed a way to make money.
I am artistic, and already love to draw/color and had been doing my own acrylic nails, so I figured, what the heck, I’ll give this epoxy resin art a try!
The cleaning business came later, in November 2023. I started this business as my job started cutting hours. I was looking for a new job and none of them paid what I needed to be paid nor offered the hours I needed to be able to take care of my kids and their extra curriculars and/or doctors appointments, etc.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
All of my epoxy resin art is made with love! I take my craft very seriously and am very OCD about how it turns out. I am proud of myself for taking the time to learn this craft and never giving up, even when I did have a “regular” job, working for someone else’s business, I still came home and worked on resin orders, and I still do, but now, it’s after my cleaning jobs are done for the day. It wasn’t easy getting to where I am now. It took a lot of time – watching tutorials, reading reviews for different types of resin, choosing molds and what to do next to catch the consumers eye, etc. Practice makes perfect and I couldn’t tell you how many hours I’ve spent on resin (it’s A LOT). I am still perfecting my craft and I am still learning how to do more with resin. I’ve learned a lot about communication with clients, how to better schedule and work with time expectations.
My cleaning business has really challenged me, as I became busy rather quickly. It has shown me, though, that anything is possible, including starting your own (or two, or more) business(es) and SUCCEEDING! You have to give it your all and believe in yourself!
My brands are both “Pendley” brands as I want to recognize my father, who passed in 2008. I am an only child and this is the way I felt I could create a legacy with his name.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would probably take my best friend to South Padre Island. I’ve never been. I’m from Florida and we’ve only traveled to Galveston from Austin as a family. I hear South Padre is beautiful and I’m a Florida Girl so I LOVE PRETTY BEACHES! Galveston is a really neat place, though, with a ton of history, so perhaps we could stop there on the way to South Padre Island! There’s a restaurant in Galveston called “Shark Shack”. We go there (my family and I) everytime we visit. The food is ALWAYS delicious. The drinks are strong. The management is nothing short of awesome! I think we’d have to stop at the San Antonio River Walk at some point, too. There’s also a lot of history there, along with scenic views and beautiful, historic hotels. There’s a restaurant there called The Yard House and their food has always been top tier! I would also take her to Blazer Tag, right here in Austin, TX, for some fun!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that I want to recognize! My mom, hubby (Rapper G-Smith) & kids have believed in my craft(s) and have cheered me on since day one. I have amazing friends, such as Mercedes “The Big Body Benz” Barnes, Larissa aka Lady Pharaoh aka The Bent Baker, Joe Ramirez (Owner of Blazer Tag), and Kevin Bocanegra (Big & Little Productions) whom have all pushed me, rooted for me, supported and purchased from me. My clients are all appreciated because my businesses wouldn’t still be growing without them! They’re the reason I keep going and will never stop!
