We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Prazak and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, why did you pursue a creative career?
Arts and crafts have always been a huge part of who I am and what I love. For as long as I can remember, I have been creating gifts and other works of art for my family and friends. Photography has been one of my artistic hobbies for many years, Starting my own photography business has brought so much joy to my life. I love taking pictures of newborns and their families and turning them into a work of art that will last a lifetime.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I first started my photography business, I focused on families. I quickly recognized that young children get very nervous on picture day. Fortunately, prior to becoming a newborn and family photographer, I spent nine years teaching elementary school which helped me develop a lot of patience and an understanding of young children. Over time, I developed a love for newborn photography. It takes a tremendous amount of time, creativity, and patience but every final portrait is worth all of the time and effort. When taking newborn portraits, I always work at baby’s pace to ensure they are safe, relaxed, and comfortable every step of the way. When photographing families with siblings, I am able to connect with their children and help them get comfortable in front of the camera so that we can capture those cute sibling and family photos.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our city has so much to offer. If my best friend came to visit I would take her to an Astros game or Space Cowboys game since we both love sports. Ideally, I would have her come during rodeo season so I could take her to one of the concerts and rodeo shows. I would introduce her to Herman Park. I’m not really big on knowing all of the great food places, so we would likely eat at Papasitos since it is my favorite.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Starting my own business was a huge risk I took. I could not have done it without the full support of my husband, Patrick. I am extremely grateful for my friend, Deanna Petrie, owner of Pittari Portrait Studio, as she has supported me and guided me along the way. I also have Accredited Professional Newborn Photographers International (APNPI) association to thank for my growth and success.
