We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Cole Bremser and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy Cole, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve been a creative my entire life! Growing up, I was always told to fit the mold: go to school, then college, get a normal job, work my whole life at that job, and then retire. While that’s fine for many, I’ve always felt that such a lifestyle was never meant for me. I was always “outside of the box,” as my family would say. I was heavily involved in the arts, theatre, and photography growing up- I can even remember carrying around one of those old cameras that would record on a 3 inch floppy disc (if you remember those). I even modeled for several years and learned a lot on how to be on the other side of the camera, so I’ve always been involved and around photography as an art. It was actually during my modeling era that I really decided to make photography a career rather than a hobby. The moment I finished college, I dove straight into starting up my photography business. Life is too short to not follow your passion, so I did just that.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Photography transcends being just a career; it’s my profound passion. The ability to envision how I would capture or edit an image in my mind before even taking out my camera is a source of immense joy. Working with inspiring individuals, and witnessing families grow year after year it’s truly something I cherish. My style embraces natural light, vibrant colors and the emotion in a moment – these are aspects that I heavily lean into. What sets me apart is that, beyond a photograph, clients experience moments of joy, laughter, and even tears during our time together. I become a small but meaningful part of their story.
The journey to where I am hasn’t always been easy, and challenges persist, but I strive to find the light in every situation. I want the world to understand, beyond capturing moments, my brand is about using my art to mirror the inherent artistry within each individual I work with.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I take great pride in being an active member of the Houston community. Exploring Galveston Island with all its history, the extensive shopping in the Galleria and Highland Village, or any of the amazing restaurants in The Heights or Montrose would be my instant recommendation. Of course, if they came in March, there is nothing more quintessentially “Houston” than HLSR- except maybe a trip to NASA.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people in my life that deserve a recognition in my success story. My dad for buying me my first camera, my mom for always being optimistic for me, Professor John Dettling for being one of the first to encourage me to pursue a career and photography, my first mentor- Jon Eilts, for teaching me so much in my early career, my friends for letting me take thousands of photos of them before I even knew what I was doing, my dear friend and fellow photographer Jenny King for always being my hype girl and photographer inspiration, of course all of my amazing clients who have let me grow with them over the years, and so, so many more.
