We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, what inspires you?
I find inspiration in many places, and it’s different for custom orders and for holidays. For a custom cookie order, I like to see the invitation for the party, the decorations they will use, the outfit planned for the birthday kid, mood boards or Pinterest boards, even the plates they have picked out to use. From this I take the color palette first, and then look at all the textures and patterns to see what would look beautiful as a cookie. For holiday cookie offerings, I usually design them myself based on what I am inspired by that year. Often I take a walk through Hobby Lobby or Target to look at their holiday color schemes. Gift bags at Target are always a great place to see new visual content. Another unique place to get color palette inspiration is children’s clothing. They often have stunning color combinations for seasonal ideas. Instagram is another place for great inspiration, especially interior design and decorating accounts.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of my favorite things about designing custom cookie sets is making sure the cookies all tie together. I like to use color, texture, and even fonts to create an eye popping plate of deliciousness. I love to see people’s reactions to my work. Many people look at the cookies and say they are too pretty to eat – but please eat! That’s what they are there for. I love when someone takes a bite and says that it tastes good (in surprise) because many are surprised that my cookies are packed with so much flavor.

It’s not easy to be an artist in an inundated field. When you look on Pinterest or Instagram, it feels like everyone and their mother makes pretty cookies. But as my favorite cookie artist Sweet Sugarbelle always says, “comparison is the thief of joy”, and it rings true for me today. I keep doing what I am doing because it brings me joy and it brings joy to my clients. I love that I am making cookies for some of the same families that I made cookies for 10 years ago. The occasions change as the kids get older, but my work is still a part of their family’s celebrations, and that is truly special.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my family. My husband is so supportive of my work, and often comes up with the most effective ways to minimize the time I have to spend on the business side of cookies. My kids are my biggest fans, and are always encouraging me and telling their friends about their mom, the cookie lady.
