We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Vance and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I first started Eco Modern Concierge, I was working in oil & gas and did it on the side to make extra money during college. I knew I needed to make extra money to pay for college, living expenses, etc. and tried to think of something that I could do on the side. Once I went to grad school I had built up my clientele and went full time. When I first started I offered house and pet sitting services as well and then narrowed it down to doing mostly just professional organizing and personal assistant tasks. 15 years later I still love what I do and we help residential and business clients with their professional organizing and personal assistant needs.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have owned and operated Eco Modern Concierge since 2005. We are a Houston based small, woman owned business and a Certified Women’s Business Enterprise (WBENC). We help others achieve a balance between work and life to alleviate overall stress. Eco Modern Concierge is a lifestyle management company that helps with day-to-day tasks that people don’t have time for or just don’t want to do, including professional organizing and personal assistance. We offer a wide array of services, but specialize in move management and holiday concierge services. These are 2 areas that we get some of the most requests in and have a great deal of experience with and are considered experts in these areas, especially in Houston. I am proud of so many things that have happened throughout the years, but really proud of how much Eco Modern Concierge has grown and the relationships that we have built with some clients. Many clients we have worked with for 9+ years. I got where I was today by waking up and doing what I love everyday, keep pushing myself to do better and adapting to change. It of course has not always been easy and I am still learning every single day. There are so many behind the scenes things in a business that others will never see and it comes with many challenges, but you have to figure out how to navigate those challenges and find solutions to problems that may arise. At Eco Modern Concierge we work really hard at what we do, love helping others and giving back when we can. I am beyond grateful and appreciative for the all the opportunities that we have had though the years and continue to have.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well now that we are in the middle of a pandemic I am not sure that this would apply. There is so much to see and do in Houston that people don’t always realize. Some of my favorite spots throughout the city and I know I am missing SO many….. Museum District for sure to visit MFAH, Natural Science and Contemporary Arts Museum Head to Galveston Visit the theater district Visit some favorite local shops like Berings, Kuhl-Linscomb, Manready Mercantile and so many more. We could spend a week just eating at various spots like Lankford’s Grocery, Uchi, Barnaby’s, Frank’s Pizza, Killen’s Fried Chicken, B&B Butchers, Gilhooley’s and the list goes on & on. Some favorite bars include, Warren’s downtown, Boheme, Anvil, Chelsea’s Wine Bar, West Alabama Ice House, and the list goes on & on.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, Bryan, deserves a shoutout because he has been an integral part of a majority of my journey. He has been my sounding board, someone I turn to for advice and has encouraged me every single step of the way. There are many other people along the way that have been super supportive as well and for that I am beyond appreciative and grateful.
