We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Rosales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angel, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Food, coffee, and video games are what makes me happy.

I love hamburgers. My favorite burger spot is burger-chan in the Galleria area in Houston, TX. They also make an amazing fish sandwich. Second is Super Duper Burgers in San Francisco. So good!

I know everyone will tell you Truth or Killen’s is the best BBQ, but don’t sleep on Feges BBQ and Blood Bros BBQ. In all honesty, you can’t go wrong with any of these. Feges and Blood Bros. just happen to be my favorite.

When it comes to coffee, in my opinion, nothing beats fresh homemade Turkish coffee. If I am out, I do look for Katz Coffee. The first time I tried Katz’s coffee I was having breakfast at a restaurant called Lola’s in the Heights. Fell in love with the coffee immediately. I found out later that it was locally roasted here in Houston. Bonus!

Coffee calms my ADD. Drinking good coffee is important to me. I drink it so much, so I want quality and taste over anything else. It’s a trip, but I must drink coffee at night so I can sleep. Wild!

Video games and I have a love-hate relationship. I am super competitive and for the longest time I hated to lose. I’m sure most people can relate. However, as I’ve gotten older, I have learned to embrace video games. I enjoy the experience, storyline and just playing the game and not so much winning the game. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still trying to win, but I’m cool with losing. I love playing video games with my kids. We’ve gotten to be a pretty good team. I think that since I am not bothered by losing, this has made my kids better at handling anything competitive.

Now I just need to open a burger joint that offers great coffee and has an arcade. I’m sure this existed in the 80’s.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

The best part about my business is getting paid to play video games with my kids. It’s not a big part of my business, but it’s my favorite part. I’m also making a video game for my kids, so that is fun too.

Most days I’m working on apps, helping other companies with their technology needs, monitoring servers or some other tech related jobs. Those all pay well, but nothing beats hanging out with my kids.

My goal was to build a business that allows me to live comfortably but spend more time with family than with work. If this company grows into something bigger, my goal will be to provide a work-life balance where life takes precedence.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Breakfast at Lola’s. It’s super-hot here in Houston, so we might walk around the underground tunnels downtown after. If we were in the tunnels, lunch would be at Treebeards. No question. After that we would probably need a nap or at least a rest on the couch. Maybe we catch a movie at the Marq’E. If we did that, then we would walk over to Red Robin for dinner. This is the ONLY Red Robin I can vouch for.

The next few days would just be a blur of food comas. A little BBQ here, some burgers and definitely some Cafe Adel. Their cevapcici is delicious!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This might be cliché or cheesy, but my life is made better every day by my beautiful and amazing wife. She picks me up when I’m ready to quit and encourages me to keep moving forward. My kids are super cool. They always believe in me.
