Meet Angela Kovar | Co-Owner, The Blue Magnolia Wedding & Events Venue

We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Kovar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My husband and I were married at a wedding venue in Montgomery in September 2017. During that time, we developed a close friendship with the original venue owner, bonding over a shared dream of one day owning a similar establishment. For us, the key to making that dream a reality was always the right location.
Over the years, we kept our eyes on properties as they became available, but it wasn’t until April 2020 that we felt we had found the perfect spot. In a collaborative decision between my husband and my parents, we purchased 10 acres of land—land we felt held the potential to bring our vision to life. What followed was nearly five years of thoughtful planning, designing, and building—always with the goal of creating something truly exceptional.
Throughout this journey, we visited over 50 wedding venues in the area, attending open houses and carefully observing the details—what made each venue stand out, what could be improved, and how we could incorporate the very best elements into our own space. We took notes every step of the way.
Today, we proudly present The Blue Magnolia—a true reflection of years of passion, intention, and love. It is a beautiful blend of everything we believe a couple could want on their wedding day: charm, elegance, warmth, and unforgettable experiences.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Opening a wedding venue is not for the faint of heart. We purchased our land just as COVID-19 was becoming widespread in the United States, and over the next two years, we approached more than 20 banks to share our vision. Time and time again, we were met with rejection—far more often than we care to admit. In the face of those setbacks, we kept the dream alive through personal funding, which made the stakes even higher.
We came within six months of letting go of it all—until we met with a bank that finally gave us the “yes” we had been hoping and praying for. That moment changed everything. The journey to get there was far from easy, filled with countless obstacles and hoops to jump through. But through it all, I held onto one phrase that kept me grounded: I’m doing this for my kids and my family.
Construction on The Blue Magnolia began in February 2024. During that time, I worked from a sales trailer onsite, walking potential clients through our floor plans, video renderings, and the raw property itself to bring our vision to life. We hosted events throughout construction to show progress and include our earliest clients in the journey—some even signed their names onto the building’s steel frame, leaving their mark on The Blue Magnolia forever.
Today, we’re proud to share that we’ve secured over 100 bookings.
What truly sets us apart from other venues in the area is our unique location, picturesque scenery, and our versatile, all-weather facility. Every square foot of The Blue Magnolia was designed with intentionality and elevated detail. Inspired by the timeless elegance of Ralph Lauren, the venue features an upstairs bridal suite, a Juliet balcony, an interior cocktail lounge, a Sixty Vines-inspired bar, an indoor chapel with windows that open to the outdoors, a grand staircase and reception hall, a buffet nook, and so much more.
At our core, The Blue Magnolia represents family, transparency, honesty, and trust. We go above and beyond to ensure every event is as seamless and meaningful as it deserves to be.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a total sucker for small-town charm and antique treasures, so if my best friends were visiting, I’d absolutely plan a day (or two!) in Round Top, Texas. It’s the perfect blend of countryside beauty, curated vintage finds, and laid-back Southern hospitality.
We’d start the day with coffee and pastries at Royers Pie Haven, then spend the morning wandering through the antique barns, boutiques, and backroad gems that make Round Top so magical. From European antiques to one-of-a-kind home pieces, every corner has a story—and we’d have the best time uncovering it all together.
For lunch, we’d grab a table at Lulu’s—one of my absolute favorites for its rustic-chic ambiance and fresh Italian fare. A glass of wine, good food, and laughter with friends in such a charming setting? That’s my idea of the perfect afternoon.
We’d top off the day with a wine tasting at Prost Wine Bar, tucked away under the oaks. It feels like a secret garden, and the selection is always spot-on. By sunset, we’d probably have a car full of antique finds, full hearts, and plans to make it an annual trip.
Round Top is one of those special places that makes you slow down, soak it in, and feel completely inspired—and sharing that with my best friends would be an absolute dream.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, it all comes back to my mom and dad. I’ll never forget sitting down with them at Chili’s in January 2020, excited and a little nervous, as we pitched the idea—this piece of land we had just discovered, our vision for what it could become, and the business model and projections behind The Blue Magnolia.
They didn’t hesitate for a moment. From the very beginning, they’ve been our biggest supporters. They saw what we saw: a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity—not just for us, but for our entire family. Their belief in us and in this dream has meant everything.
