We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela T. Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela T., the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
One of the most difficult decisions that I’ve ever had to make is to boldly show up for myself, unapologetically. I continuously remind myself to keep showing up for me in every aspect of my life both personally and professionally. In order to do that I feel that I must invest in me. Something that I have neglected of myself for many years. I had to come to terms with selfcare is not selfish nor is it a reward, but it is absolutely necessary. I have learned to pour into myself physically, emotionally, internally and externally without any regrets. Taking time to celebrate me; doing things that I enjoy whether it be reading a book, going to the gym, having a spa day, or taking a mini vacation. or simply doing nothing is becoming a part of my new norm. I believe that I have struggled with this as I have always nurtured others and their needs – from family, to friends, to work. It was so easy, like second nature, to put myself on the back burner and show up for others making sure others were okay even if I was on empty and if I wasn’t okay.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently, I am a new entrepreneur as Fitness Coach with certifications in two areas of fitness. Also, I am a healthcare professional with roughly 24 years in law enforcement both civilian and a POST certified peace officer. All which involve helping people. Needless to say, I have always been in the business of helping others. My regular 9 to 5 as well as my newfound entrepreneurship journey in the fitness world, has allowed me to meet many different people from all walks of life. I believe that what separates me from others is that I have a genuine desire and productive, enthusiastic way of changing people’s lives through movement while they are having so much fun doing it. I absolutely love meeting new people, and specifically like-minded people and helping them achieve or manage their goals one dance or step at a time. I’ve always been physically active and somewhat of a fitness guru but being a fitness coach has always been a far-fetched dream. I never thought it could or would actually become a reality. But stepping out on faith and believing in what God’s has for me has molded me; along with the encouragement from my mentors, friends, coaches and loved ones have all encouraged me to simply believe in myself and trust the process.

We all know that not all people are relatable, pleasant and / or kind so with that being said, I must say my proudest moment and what I remain so excited about is being a survivor of the negative stereotypical stigmas that are placed upon being a peace officer and or / healthcare professional. As a healthcare professional and my career in former law enforcement for many years, in the most difficult times, I was always able to maintain my morals, dignity. and integrity. Being able to do the right thing even when no one is watching is something that I have always pride myself on then and even now. While keeping God first, I have constantly relied on my upbringing. The morals and values that were instilled in me at a young age; to always be honest, to do what’s right; to treat others as human-beings as I would want to be treated and to be kind. These things helped me to stay true to who I am as a person and has definitely help me as an effective peace officer and ultimately help me overcome negative stigmatism. This has also been applicable in my current position in the medical field as well.

I have learned that it is important to me to always keep God in the midst of every aspect of my life; to remain steadfast and immovable when it comes to truth, honor and to always be my authentic self. One thing that I would like people to know about me, my story and the brand that I am currently building is that I am someone that is willing to help anyone that helps themselves.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a hard one for me because I don’t usually do the typical things expected. Therefore, I am not a local flyer around town; so, I would stick to the things that I already do. However, I would have to recommend first and foremost some healthy movement by way of exercise. So off to Club 4 of Shreveport where we will participate in one of the many daily fitness classes where I am a group fitness instructor (Xtreme Hip-Hop and Zumba). Will be able to indulge in everything from the open gym to yoga, cycling, Pilates, Les Mills platforms, Xtreme Hip-Hop, Dance Fitness, saunas, massages, and etc.

As far as dining, we would definitely grab some brunch at Up for Brunch were the food and vibes set the bar.

Dinner would have to be an experience at the historically rooted infamous Eddie’s Seafood and Soul Food Restaurant which has been featured on Restaurant Impossible as well as in other prominent magazines and publications. The hospitality is beyond reproach and the food is speculator.

For a nice, pleasant grown folks evening to hang out and unwind with good vibes, nice live music and great ambiance, stopping by Lake Street Bar is definitely on the itinerary. And even cut a line dance or two.

Next, we could catch a live concert either at the Brookshires’ Arena or perhaps at a local casino. Lastly, we will keep things simple and catch a coffee shop or bookstore to just simply chill, share ideas and catch up.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
All glory goes to God. Without Him there would be no Angela. I must and will always include God in everything. God’s grace has led me through when I was unsure with no understanding. Your unconditional love and mercy keep me grounded.

To my sons who are both mommy boys are always in my corner routing for me and lifting me up when sometimes feeling defeated. Thank you for your love and support. To the rest of my family and all of my friends who have prayed for me and with me, who have cried with me and spent countless days or nights and hours listening to my dreams and aspirations. To all of those that gave me good vibes and spoke positivity in me, I appreciated you all.

Also, I would like to give recognition to my mother, Ruby Thomas. The strongest woman I know. Throughout my life you have always spoken words of encouragement in my life. You have supported me and inspired me to push myself in and through challenging situations. Even now you are still my biggest fan and supporter. Mother has always encouraged me to “go for it” or “you’ve got this” and “what you don’t, God does-just keep Him the head of your life”. Your heart of gold has taught me to be kind person with kindred spirt to help others. Your participation in many of my classes has truly been an inspiration to me in many ways without you even knowing it. You’re the real MVP.

Also, I give special thanks to my three of my Coaches/Mentors: DeMarcus Webb, LaTerrica Dobbin, and Leona Gray. You all know what role you have played in this aspect of my journey. As our friendships have grown stronger, our relationships flourished into business collaborations.

Lastly, I want to give a special thank you to a person that probably doesn’t even know that I exist. Dontaye “Getfitwithdg” Garrett, an Xtreme Hip-Hop Instructor that holds many other titles as well; you gave me life with your YouTube live step classes. Your Sunday step sessions touched my soul, and you motivated me to get back active when the world was shut down during the pandemic. I would watch your channel like clockwork while joining in your Xtreme Hip-Hop Gospel aerobics class every Sunday. DG, you helped me develop the confidence to say, “I can continue to do this” overcoming many challenges and setbacks along the way. Thank you, DG, for being my distant motivator for me to keep pressing toward the mark and never giving up on me.

And last but certainly not least, to the people who lives I have had the opportunity to impact in a positive manner through movement.
