We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelica Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angelica, how do you think about risk?
While planning my daughter’s first birthday, I discovered the love I had for decorating, planning an event and how detailed oriented i am. When you love what you do for a living and take pride in, it no longer feels like a job. Starting your own business is a gamble that every business owner takes when they decide to put their talent out there. Believing in yourself is key in taking the risk. No risk, no reward.
What should our readers know about your business?
It’s my opinion what sets Overboard Event Planners apart is the ability to translate our customers vision in to reality. The passion and love that goes in to customizing every Grazing table is second to none. I love decorating! It brings me much joy, and a great deal of pride to translate my clients visions into reality with my hands and experience.
I am where I am today in business, thanks to my village, it is a without question my family and friends, who have encouraged and supported from the very beginning. They cheered me on to start my business and lent their support in anyway they could. Nothing in life is easy and every entrepreneur can tell you that starting your own business is one of the scariest and most exciting things they can do.
As your business becomes your baby you will nurture, give time and sacrifice plenty, similar to raising your own child or children. Every business has their own unique challenges. To overcome my challenges. I met those challenges when I started to acknowledging what was in front of me and then coming up with a plan. A valuable lesson I’ve learned a long this journey. I have also learned to align myself with like minded individuals, to receive and also to share advice and experiences collaborating with other business owners.
It would be a great privilege for the world to know just how much it satisfies me to serve my customers. The joy i have when my clients express just how happy they are with my service is unmatched.
It seems that my story is just like lots of other homemakers. While at home with their children they found their talents and truly found their passion. I am blessed to have a husband that was able to provide this kind of time for me. He has also helped, invested and believed in me. For that I will always be great full.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first place I would visit with my friend is Z on 23. It has one of prettiest views of the Houston sky line. She’s from New York City so I would take her there first to show her Houston has a nice skyline as well. The vibe and drinks at Z on 23 roof top is sure to give her the great city night life feel for her first night in Houston.
The next day, we would have a girls brunch. We both love brunching and no better place to go than the Little Hen. This place has the perfect esthetics for a girls brunch. Lots of flowers, decor and fancy cocktails. Not to mention their delicious pink pancakes. Afterwards, back to my house to go get into cute bathing suits and get into the pool for an afternoon sun bathing with some homemade mimosas.
I would love to also take my friend to Galveston and spend a few days out there, at an airbnb near the water. Upon arriving, it would be all about walking on the beach catching up with a glass of wine and listening to the waves crashing on the shore. The next day, we would rent bikes and ride along the sea wall and get to show her what beach life is all about in Galveston. There are so many great restaurants by the sea wall it would be difficult to choose therefore we would just go with our gut at that point. If we can enjoy one more day I would love to spend the day at pleasure pier where we can enjoy the amusement park and eat funnel cake while enjoying a cold beer.
Once back home I would make a cute dinner at my house with my close Houston friends and introduce her to the other people who are important to me.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
