We had the good fortune of connecting with Anita and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anita, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Life has a funny way of turning the trauma’s of your life into super powers. For me it was through acting. My emotional life shows through the characters I play.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an actress who’s been trained to fully envelop characters given to me and express the roles naturally through my experiences and who I am. What the viewers think of me, “Anita,” does not matter! Rather, my focus and dedication is to the character and the role. Currently, I am still pushing to reach new goals as I am no where near reaching my full potential in my acting career. As you know, this line of work has a lot of “no’s and you’re not the right fit”. I think it is smart to create your own lanes, connect with other creators in your community and write stories that have characters who resonate with who you are. If you’re not being casted? Cast yourself. Not seeing roles that talk to you ? Write for yourself. I feel in 2025 you have the freedom to take a leap and put matters into your own hands. Which is why I wrote my own short where I will be the lead actress /producer/director and hope to film this year. Being new to the beautiful city of Houston, I hope to network with other creatives & catch the eyes of agents who would be interested in having a proud Latina on their roster. Till then, I will continue to work on my craft, myself and work towards a “Hollywood” where there’s more Latino representation & women in the industry.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I just moved from California to Houston in August. Out the gate, I would take them to Laredo Taqueria, as I am learning that breakfast tacos are the thing here in Texas. Then head over to poison girl bar in Montrose and take advantage of the Photo Booth to make memories. The following morning we can do Bayou heights coffee and enjoy a raspberry matcha on their outdoor patio. Next, we would take a walk around the Bayou park with my dog and for dinner go to Cuchara. Post Houston would also be a must to walk around & see an over view of Downtown Houston. Excited to explore more of what Houston has to offer.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All the strong women in my life, my husband & The Anthony Gilardi studio.
