We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Clark Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anthony, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Easy, you always keep going, if you really want it. The only way to fail is to quit. If something isn’t going the way you want, that’s not necessarily a reason to give up, to me it’s more of an opportunity to find a new path to get to your desired outcome than anything.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When it comes to my art, what separates me from others and what excites me about what I do is that I need a lot of different people to help bring about whatever it is we’re working on. In this case music. When I first started recording my first single, it was only me on my laptop sitting on the living room floor in my parent’s house. I got a lot done and really started to learn how to record and produce records at a high level, but then I began to noticed that every time other just as talented individuals touched my record, it got exponentially better in ways that I alone would have not been able to bring about. It energized me, instead of trying to do everything all by myself, I got excited about how much better the record could potentially get by tastefully outsourcing to other geniuses around me. Now I’ve sort of made it like a game to find what things I need to do on my own, and what things I need to bring in outside expertise on. I think that’s the only reason my work is a excellent as it is, all the smarter than me people that are around me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting for a week long trip, some of my must visit places would be

Bike riding at Buffalo Bayou
Coffee at Barbarossa
An Astros game at Minute Maid Park
Lunch at the legendary Black Walnut Cafe
Shopping at Rice Village
And seeing the sunset show at the James Turrell Sky Space

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friends and family. When I moved to Austin in 2021, when I was leaving my father told me to make my dreams come true. For a year and a half I made music all day everything thanks to the support of my friends and family, but I spent most days alone in front of a computer screen with a guitar, that’s when I realized that being around the people I love that also love me was just as much a part of my dream as anything else.
