We had the good fortune of connecting with Antoinette Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Antoinette, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I created a product in which I knew would require my time and dedication. I’m not gonna lie, I was a little nervous with all that being an entrepreneur entails, but my upbringing has taught me to walk by faith and not by sight. So each day I made a point to join social groups for entrepreneurs’. I continue to educate myself with some of the local and national advantages and benefits of not only being an African American entrepreneur but also as woman owned business.
What should our readers know about your business?
Queen By All Means Creations is a company that makes all natural hygiene products for the entire family. Our product sets us apart from other deodorant companies because we literally use all natural ingredients! Our deodorant does not contain alcohol, aluminum, baking soda or parabens. This road has not been easy. We have faced many challenges and have had setbacks. I believe in our product and it’s performance and the impact it has had on our customers. This is what pushes me to keep going! It helps me to remember why I started this business. We recently launched our first Fresh Lil Pitz ad “Get Ready, Get Fresh, Let’s Go! and it is streaming on all social networks. We’ve also been added to Walmart.com! We are extremely proud of our accomplishments thus far. We would like the world to know that we are a family oriented company that makes handcrafted deodorant. We have created a product that is safe and effective for kids as young as two years old. The product contains all natural ingredients safe for all skin types.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would first start our day with some exercise. My favorite walking park is the Archbishop Joseph A. Fiorenza Park located on Eldridge and Westpark in SW Houston. It is huge and has lots of beautiful wildlife. The next stop is the infamous Breakfast Klub for their delicious Chicken and Waffles located downtown Houston. Then we will do a little shopping at the Memorial City Mall.
and for dinner and drinks the Turkey Leg Hut. I would fill the week up with visiting the Space Center Houston, Discovery Green most of my friends have kids so the Children’s Museum is great. Hermann Park for the entire family is a must. Other restaurants to visit is the Twisted Grilled Cheese, Hickory Hollow and the Stockyard. I definitely could not let them leave without taking a ride to Surfside Beach where you can park on the beach, set up your beach gear and only pay $12.00 that is good for the entire year!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to first give a Shoutout to my Lord and Savior, he has brought me through so many storms and triumphs. I am so grateful for his mercy. I would like to give a shoutout to my husband Carl Turner who believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. He planted the seed of entrepreneurship when I thought he was absolutely crazy to think I could do it. My eldest child Davion Young who told me 10 yrs ago “Mom you remind me of Mahammad Ali, you make a knock down look like a stumble.” To my youngest son Kolby Turner, he is my inspiration and the motivation for Fresh Lil Pitz. My mom Claude Ann Poupolos and my sister’s Inger and Dara Douglas who are my greatest supporters. All of the Labor and Delivery Nurses and Patient Access Dept at St. Luke’s Hospital in Sugar Land, TX and last but certainly not least. The HCC Entrepreneurial Initiatives Dept: Marshette Turner, Director of Houston MBDA Center at HCC; Tamala Austin Director of Open for Business Entrepreneurial Initiatives an Community Relations for Women of Color at HCC, Michi Bruns Clay Regional Vice President at LiftFund and Karen Sharp Open for Business Business Advisor HCC Office of Entrepreneurial Initiatives. All of these ladies have inspired and educated me as a woman, mother, wife and female entrepreneur. Shoutout to you all and much love!
