We had the good fortune of connecting with Arielle Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Arielle, how do you think about risk?
Risk… the most intimidating yet rewarding thing to do. I have always been the type of person to just do things on a whim and pray that the outcome was good. I would say it worked out to my benefit. My mother would say otherwise, but everything is a lesson and the biggest rewards come from betting on yourself. Of course, there will be mistakes along the way, but each mistake is an important page in my book of life lessons.

I am creative, I love to create things. I have always had a big imagination and a knack for art, crafting and fashion. Initially I went to college for Art. After hearing “you will never find a job” so many times I decided to pivot to art education. I will use the word pivot a lot because that is exactly what I did, like in that one episode of Friends. After changing my major to Art Education, many fine arts teachers were being let go, which drove me to change my major again. Surely, I thought the third time was the charm. Business. Business was my next pivot, and boy was it the worst of all. I had never been a student who dreaded going to class or even skipped class (sorry mom) but going to school for business was not for me. The last pivot was during year 4, the start of my senior year. My mother and I had an agreement that she would pay for 4 years of school and year 4 was staring down at me like a creepy 8-foot-tall monster. I remember asking my advisor “what can I do to graduate?” She said the most time sensitive option was Education. I went on, graduated, taught, and worked in the field of education for about 4 and a half years.

In those 4 years, I had great moments and made a profound impact in my community. However, I always came home feeling incomplete, like something was missing. I shared my college story because that was one of the biggest risks I took, and the consequence was my happiness. I decided to take the safe route instead of betting on myself, taking a risk and doing what made me happy. Creating is what makes me the happiest. I began content creating in late 2021. Initially I did not take it seriously because I was worried about what others would think of me. In 2022 I decided to just go for it and take it a bit more serious, then I landed my first partnership. Moving into 2023 I decided to make it a point to just put myself out there and create content. While this helps to fill this void there is still remaining space. I had to reflect and ask myself why I was having such a challenging time filling this void. I realized teaching occupied a lot of my time and I was too tired to do the things that made me happy.

As a result, I decided to take the second biggest risk of my life. Leaving the profession, I built a name and reputation in and transitioned to a job that I had absolutely no experience in. Now is this my dream job of doing ceramics all day in my own art studio? No, far from it. Despite all the doubts from friends, family, and colleagues I had to act on this answered prayer. My new role will allow me the time I need to create, tend to my mental health, give me more time to make my passions a priority.

Believing in myself the first time and taking the risk when it first presented itself makes me wonder if I would already be living my dream, creating art in my own studio, and posting content. The lesson in all of this is to always believe in yourself, take the risk. From this day forward I will continue to take risks because I do not want to look back on my life when I am 80 years old and ask myself “what if?” I would much rather have stories to tell my kid and grandkids about how I tried, and maybe I didn’t succeed but at least I ruled the possibility out. A possibility is only a possibility until it becomes a reality.

If you bet on yourself, you will never lose, the only consequence is a lesson learned.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an artist, my favorite medium is ceramics. When I am throwing a vase on the wheel the noise of the world is cancelled out, I close my eyes and just feel the clay in spinning in my hands. It is such a therapeutic activity for me. I have not hd much time to throw on a wheel because of my previous role. Fortunately, I am currently transitioning roles and will have more time to dedicate to my craft. When I need a creativity fix, I create lifestyle content about thrifting, eaters, and things to do in the Houston area. I am excited to dice deeper into my identity as an artist and content creator.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m fairly new to Houston, I’ve been here for a year and I am still learning about all of the fun spots Houston has to offer. I love burgers and wings. Papa’s BBQ has the absolute best bacon cheese burger and Dak & Bop has the most CRISPY wings you will ever try! If it’s crawfish season I am probably at Sam’s Boat pinching’ and eating’. If you’re looking for great hookah and vibes I would definitely check out Cynt’s Hookah Lounge, their hookah is hands down the best in Houston!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have had amazing role models and support systems throughout my life. In particular, I would love to shoutout my mother. My mother has had tremendous success throughout her career and has always pushed me to give everything I do 110%. Watching her successes and being a witness of how hard she worked is simply inspirational. I would love to say she did it for my sister and I, which is probably true, but I know she most importantly did it for herself. Watching her crush her goals and travel the world, enjoying the fruits of her labor brings a smile to my face. Having such an amazing role model showed me that I can have the same life for myself.
