We had the good fortune of connecting with Arturo Galindo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Arturo, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a creative career since I’ve always had an interest in expressing myself. Another reason is that I struggle with my own image, and I don’t want others to feel the same way. When I do photography and videography sessions with others, it always makes me happy when I see them gaining confidence in themselves and gaining a new sense of self-love throughout and after the session.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I actually started out creating gaming content on YouTube back in 2012 when I was in middle school and fell in love with the entire creative process. Today I have become a professional award-winning editor and video creator. It was not an easy journey as I was self-taught for a majority of my journey but was able to polish up my skills by gaining my BFA in Film & TV Production at SHSU. I overcame a lot of my challenges by stepping out of my comfort zone and accepting that the first attempt at something new was not going to be the easiest or the best of my abilities. Practices makes progress so I always try to create something new. What I want people to know about my brand is that I am here to help express their voice and bring a smile to everyone. If my art is able to help one person smile on a terrible day, I’ve done my job.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first thing I would do is take a trip to the Katy Grand Circle where Somi Somi, Popstroke, and Andretti is. I can spend an entire day in this area with all the amenities and restaurants. There are also nice places to sit and talk when taking a break. The next day would be walking in Downtown Houston taking pictures and exploring the area. I grew up in Connecticut where everything in my town was very walkable, so I like to stay active. The next day would be a good gym session as this is where I get the most comfortable and with high end gyms all around Houston, I would explore new places. The next big stop would be taking a class at SoReal Dance Studio. I love dance and have for a while, I’ve taken classes their whenever I can since 2018. The teachers and dancers there are the most welcoming and down to earth people I could have ever met. The last most important stop would be going out to a Latin bar at night. For a while my favorite club was Paradise Palace where I met a lot of exciting people who know how to have fun. I don’t drink so a place where I can feel comfortable is always a plus.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The biggest support I have in my life currently is my partner Micayla. She has seen my artistic journey grow from step one. She is also my model for most of my personal projects and a great shoulder to lean on when I need it.
